Question about SKS Rifle High-profile See-thru Scope Mount W/1" Rings

Open Question

I just bought a Yugo SKS and have been having a problem with bolt not opening and letting spent shell out . The only thing i could find that looked suspicious with gas chamber was the switch at the end of the chamber that switches gun from semi to single shot was heavily pitted. I had my buddy bring his Yugo over and we switched the part out and the gun fired fine. My question is what is this part called and where can i buy it? Thank you for your time Ed

SOURCE: yugo sks. rounds wont cycle. all parts in pretty good shape.

sounds like you have some kosmaline left in there Take it all apart and degrees everything , trigger, bolt, firing pin and inside piston tube even an used one might have been sold because it never was cleaned of all the storage grease and they could never get it to work also watch for slam fire and firing from just carrying it as it keeps the hammer from cocking all the way

SOURCE: I HAVE BUILT MY FIRST SKS (YUGO) AND IT WILL NOT

If your rifle reloads a new round but will not fire it is a problem with the trigger mechanism, if it does not reload a new round but locks back like the clip is empty, you have a problem with the clip spring not forcing a new round up hard enough to feed, if it cycles the receiver and does not pick up a new round your recoil spring is to strong or you need to open the gas port some more.

SOURCE: i need to find out how to convert a yugo sks to an

Pay the feds $200 tax stamp and become one of their most watched, then go out and find a conversion kit, consisting of auto sear, selector, trigger, hammer, bolt carrier, springs, and whatever else you need, install it, you will be all set, then find a couple thousand rounds to feed the thing. And become hated by everybody within ear shot of your rifle. And every local police wanting to see your federal papers. Not worth it in my book. Fun yes, but not worth the aggravation. How do i install cartraige in to my sks

Pull the bolt back far enough that it locks open on the empty magazine. Push cartridges down into the magazine and then pull the bolt back and let it snap closed to chamber a round.

My sks wont cycle

SKS for home defense is not a good idea unless your nearest neighbor is a couple miles thru the woods and down in a valley.
I'd do a really good cleaning and lube. There may be some cosmoline still in some of the parts.
12gauges make a much better home defense. #4 buck is nice. Twenty or so pellets the size of a .22.
Two-legged predators run just hearing the action cycle on a pump 12ga.

I have two sks, one is norinco and the other one is russian. The chinese type can fire only 123gr of ammo but if I use 127 gr., it won't eject the shell out of the chamber. I don't have that problem with...

I don't understand that one but, I would have to guess that the gas tube is leaking? Or clogged, Most of those guns are made to shoot and cycle no matter what. And the difference between 2 bullets of almost the same weight shouldn't mean nothing. I know the russian is a better gun, But,,, You must have a leak, or the piston is letting gas by. One way to find out is wrap the whole handguard from the bolt handle to the front sight, especially the gas tube, fire it and see if it gets a black spot somewhere along the line, If so, you found a leak, If not, I would have to look at it to tell. I had an L1A1 that did the same thing and I traced it back to the adj. Had to seal it up tight or it wouldn't eject a spent round.

Binding SKS stripper clips that won't feed when loading

All stripper clips tend to do this, even the old .303 used to bind. The answer was to thump them into the mag. Although I do not think this is the way to go in this case, they are not a fast lod method. In fact in the field, I found them to be a right royal pain in the arse and as such ripped the rounds out of them as soon as I got them. I used 7.62mm Nato. You could try to lever up the sticky parts with a screw driver or open them up a fraction using a cold chisel.

My sks jams a lot. i sometimes get 2 or 3 rounds out of it and it jams again. i have to extract the spent shell and help the next shell in. what can i do

SKS's were built without polished ramps Have a gunsmith regrind and, polish the bolt ramp and, your rounds should insert and, extract flawlessly.

The Bolt will not stay back after last shell is fired from mag.

Try putting the original magazine back in.The tapco mag probably does not have the vertical extension that holds the bolt open.Compare the two mags side by side.Good Luck
