Question about Frigidaire 22.5 Cu. Ft. Counter-Depth Side-by-Side Refrigerator - Stainless-Steel

Open Question

FRIGIDAIRE PLHS69EESS2 - Both sides not cold enough. Removed freezer inside back panel and found an ice ball on top of evaporator (where the tubing ends and becomes a much smaller tube/wire - it was encased in ice. Manually defrosted and am waiting to see. Is this indicative of a major problem?

SOURCE: I have water leaking out the back of the freezer side of my side

Pull the fridge away from the wall and check where the water line enters the fridge for the ice maker. If there is a fitting there, make sure that it is tight or the clamp is secure. If it looks cracked or split in any way, remove it and replace it with new hose.

Hope this helps,

Jeff

SOURCE: I had a lot of ice at the bottom of the freezer

you nead to remove the back panal in the freezer side.the drain is at the bottom.you may have to use your blow dryer to remove ice.to clear the drain you can heat up a small pot of water and slowly pour it over drain hole.have towel's at hand.when water run's freely down drain you can replace back panal.

Freezer will not freez

maybe you have leak capillary tube! and now lack of freon! find the leak with using of wet rub in soap! you see bubbles at the leak area! then resolder the affected area, then re charge a freon.

Hello;

My name is Peter. I am a retired field service refrigeration technician.

When you removed the freezer you should have seen a even frost pattern across the cooling coils.

If you have ice at the top especially in the upper right have corner, then you either have a restriction or a refrigerant leak. In the upper right hand corner you have a very small tube with a inside diameter the size of a small needle. It is not uncommon on older units for this tube to become plugged up or leak.

A repair of this nature by a service technician would be about $550.00 USD.

Frigidaire side by side frezzer not cold enough

Yes, you are on the right track. You will need to replace the "defrost thermostat" located on the coils. Here is that part to order.

Freezer is very cold fridge is 61 degrees

You could have a plugged drain tube under the evaporator coils(behind back freezer panel) which is causing the ice in the bottom of the freezer(when it defrosts). If it also is pluggged with ice to the air return from the refgigerator to the freezer side it will cause the problem you are having. Or you have two problems, plugged drain tube and evaporator fan not running or plugged drain tube and damper control iced up......
If you have a back-up unit, leave it unplugged for a day with the doors open to thaw out, may not help, good luck though, hope this helps

Frigidaire top-mount refig. freezer won't get cold ,temp.stays around 26 degrees, refrig. don't keep milk cold enough

check that the evaporator fan motor ,located in freezer is working.it circulates the cold air.also check that the coils behind freezer back panel are not iced up,this would indicate a lack of defroting due to,timer, heating element,or bi-metal.lastly when the refrig is running those coils should get frost over them all,if not you may be low on refigerant

Removed inside rear and floor panels of freezer (ice machine also) as ably advised by your tech. Found ice damming he suspected underneath floor panel. Thawed overnight with pot of hot water in freezer. could see that small rear drain tube was iced shut; why all water going into fridge below. Avoided floor mess from thawing water flow to evaporation pan on floor by tilting unit forward on blocks and laying several old towels inside freezer door to catch water that would run out. Also placed some in front at base of unit on kitchen floor. Continuing to thaw pipe to unclog, it is iced some way down, again as tech said it might. Will reassemble and be careful with freezer setting, in case it may have been too cold. Also, some food crumbs had found their way behind panel near this drain tube and may have fallen in to block it. Will clean out any remaining.

Frigidaire side by side freezer - LOUD noise...

It sounds like the evaporator fan is hitting ice that is built up on the evaporator coil. When it's making the noise, open the freezer door and see if it stops.
(Most models are wired so that the evaporator fan cuts off when the freezer door is open.)
Check the inside back, lower panel of the freezer for ice built up or frost on it. If there is, you have a defrost problem that is most likley a bad heater. It's located around the coil inside the freezer behind the panel you will be looking at. The defrost problem would explain the freezer not freezing ice cream.

Fridge is not cold enough, freezer is working fine, but has frost

Just had the same problem with my side-by-side.

In my case, the solution was to empty the freezer side, to access a back panel INSIDE the freezer covering the fan and cooling coils. Two screws held the back panel cover on, and when I removed the panel cover I found the cooling coils to be totally iced up, preventing the flow of cold air into the fridge side. I left the freezer open for a few hours until all the ice was melted, before replacing the inside panel. (I used a blow dryer to help speed up the ice melting).

Everything's working fine now for me - good luck with yours!
