This oven has an electric thermostat control and it is most likely shorted out or the contacts are melted shut......replace the control switch that temperature knob is on it has two wires going to the gas valve.

I have a gas stove/oven, when I turn on the oven the pilot light comes on but the burners don't ignite to heat up the oven. was told that is was not the element if I have a pilot light ????

Heater elements are found in electric ovens, you have a gas oven. It sounds like your main gas valve is not opening because the pilot would light it if it was open. It could be the gas valve itself of the flame sensor. Best to get a tech on it.

Hi I lost my manual guide so I don't how to turn the oven on. Please give any idea to use the oven

Hi there,

As I'm unsure of your oven model, I can only give general instructions.

Look for a dial or switch that indicates temperature and turn it on if your oven is electric.

If you have a gas oven, you may have to turn a dial and push it at the same, this is to produce a gas flow. If it makes a "clicking" sound it has peizo ignition and will light itself.

If there is no sound, look in the oven for a lever (usually on the floor) and pull it. This will produce a gas flow which you will have to light with a match. Usually you place the lighted match over an existing hole in the oven floor and this will light the oven. TAKE GREAT CARE!!!! The hole is usually at the back of the oven whilst the lever is usually located towards the front of the oven!

I hope this is of some assistance.

I have a garland oven model st286 it wont light even though there is gas getting to it and the spark is working. It lights if you light it manually

Instructions
  1. Access the burners inside your oven by removing the access panel in the front of the oven or by opening the broiling drawer, depending on your particular model.
  2. Determine if the pilot itself is lit, since some ovens have a small flame on the pilot at all times that then grows and extends to the burner when the oven is turned on. The lack of a pilot flame indicates the oven thermostat is malfunctioning or there is a problem with the gas hose. Check the pilot itself to see if it is clogged with debris or grease that could be preventing the flame from staying lit.
  3. Determine if the pilot flame will grow if it is lit by turning on the thermostat. If the pilot flame doesn't extend, the thermostat itself likely needs replacement. If the flame is extending but the gas valve is not opening, the safety valve could be dirty or defective. The flame should be blue in color. A yellow flame indicates the pilot is dirty and is not burning hot enough to get the main burner to ignite.
  4. Light the burner on the top of the oven with a match if the igniter doesn't appear to be effective. If it lights manually but will not light automatically, the igniter is likely faulty. Do not do this if there is a heavy smell of gas in the kitchen, since there could be a risk of a fire. In that circumstance, turn the oven off, ventilate the room and call a technician.
  5. Listen for any sounds of gas hissing or a clicking sound indicating the oven is trying to turn on. If there is no response from the oven at all, the gas may not be functioning properly and will need to be examined by a technician for safety purposes

20" gas stove: has pilot light in oven, oven lights but then after several minutes will turn off. do not smell gas after it turns itself off. Using 3/8" gas line. Please advise as to potential problems...

Hi,
The oven igniter should stay on constantly as long as oven control is calling for heat and not fade off. If the igniter is too weak and not pulling enough current it may not open the gas valve correctly and gas will be let out of the gas valve and not igniter.
The likely failure is a weak oven glow bar igniter. I recommend calling a service technician to diagnose and repair your range.

Hope this helps .

Maytag gas oven doesn't heat, but oven's pilot light is on.

Get the oven checked out by a professional, if you have a gas leak you can easily blow up the entire house and you with it. I think you have a faulty gas valve based on what you wrote

KENMORE GAS STOVE OVEN LOWER BURNER WON'T WORK

bad oven ignitor is the most common cause of bake failure, located onthe side of hte burner bar itself, if youd like with a multi-meter, you can check the wires leading to the ignitor for 110v. if you have power and nothing was glowing from ignitor theres your problem

Oven shuts off by itself

When your oven reaches the desired temp. it shuts down then turns back on again after it cools down a couple of degrees and cycles like this during the complete baking cycle. If your ignitor or oven valve is getting weak it would cause this symptom.
