This could be a sign that your laptop is overheating. If you touch the laptop while it is running & you find it too hot, make sure that the fan is running properly & that the air ways are not blocked. You can blow compressed air into the cooling vents of the fan. If you notice clouds of dust coming out, then it might be a good idea to disassemble the laptop, clean the fan & air ways, & reassemble it back. If the fan has failed & is no longer running, it might need to be replaced.

If none of this solves the problem, or is not the case, then you might have a bad motherboard.

Toshiba equium m40x

this may caused by hard disk problem. first remove (disconnect) hard disk. then try to enter bios setup. if the problem persist, find a jumper clip named 'bios reset' in mother board near front panel connectors. the default jumper position is 1and 2. now change the clip into 2and3 - power on - wait 5 seconds - power off - reset jumper to 1and2- thats all connect hard disk- check again the bios setting.

My toshiba equium a200 starts up when u press up the power button but then automaticly turns off. do u have any idea what is wrong with it? i thought it was dead so i put in the charger also but it does...

HI Sarah,

It sounds like the laptop is overheating and shutting itself down to prevent damage to the components.

Try cleaning the air vents and CPU fan which are located at the sides, back and under the laptop. The best thing to use is a can of compressed air.

If that doesn't fix the problem then i recommend that you take the laptop to a reputable PC repair store and have a tech look at it for you as the problem could be the CPU fan itself is not working or even a more serious problem.

Regards.

My toshiba equium laptop keeps randomly turning itself off - this could be after 5 mins or after 60 mins, but could be fine for a couple of days!!!

Hi:
your symptoms point towards a intermittent cooling problem...You might need to remove your cpu cooling fan, clean it up, and re install it, with new thermal paste. Make sure all fans in your computer are working as they should, including the power supply fan too.
