Question about Crosley Celebrity CR73-3 3-Disc CD Player

1 Answer

The 3 Cd player will not work. With the switch in the proper position for CD the unit will go through all trays 1, 2, then 3 and with a disk in tray 3 it will momentarily light up the play button but once I push it I get an E on the LCD display. Note it does not recognize a disk in any tray but 3.

E means error, the laser head can no longer detect the return of the ray, it's covered in dust. Open the unit , access the laser head and clean it thoroughly - with a can of compressed air in between the lens and the sensor and with a q-tip on the lens (wipe it gently, is fragile).

A disk is stuck in my Harmon Kardon player. The door will open and close and I can see the disk but cant' get it out.

turn on the unit and then tried to press the play button while the cd tray is in place. if doesn't work, unplug the dvd player then open the cover to access the internal part. look for a broken limit switch for cd tray mechanical assembly or check weather the cd not in proper place in the tray that is why an error occur.

Tip

The CD/ DVD/ Blueray player tray keeps opening and closing!

First make sure the "Eject" button has not stuck while pushed-in. Clean the Tray window/opening and the inside of the front part of the tray. Then try to push the tray in a little bit when closed and drag it out while open! By the time dust gathers on the greasy tray rails resulting it not to open and close to the full extent. If it helps but the problem comes back, then you should open the box and clean the rails more thoroughly. Have a look at the switch that senses the tray state (open/closed) too. OBS! That is not the same as the "Eject" button! Switch placement is device model deppendant but it is usually placed on the stationary part of the disc-player unit under the front end of the tray in the middle!
Some units do eject a disk they don't recognize. That a player can't read a disk could be a result of incompatibility, dusty optical lens or faulty/old laser. You may clean the lens by using a "Cleaning disk" or blowing with an air spray(or a straw with your mouth) through the opening of the tray.
Good luck

CD-R drawer won't open. CD is in drawer.

there are different reasons for stuck up disk tray

1. load belt is worn out already
2. driving gear for mechanical loading disc tray has broken teeth.
3. cd got stuck up between the loading disc tray and the plate holder.

You will need unplug your device first and then unscrew the cover of your unit and find it yourself to know what causes it not to open.

once the cover is out, the mechanical loading disc tray will be exposed.
1. remove the stuck cd
2. plug the unit and turn on, to get access the belt, wait for the disc tray to move to the pull out position, then unplug your device.
3. plug the unit and turn on, if the disc tray do not move, use your finger to move the tray and see which gear is broken.

belts are available from this site. just have to measure the correct diameter of the belt in your unit

My xbox 360 tray wont stay close how do i fix it

Do you mean the CD tray won't stay closed? If so check the simple things first. The button that you push to open and close the tray is actually a lever that pushes a much smaller button below it. Make sure that your eject button is not stuck down for some reason. Check your cd tray and the bay to make sure nothing got inside that is preventing the cd tray from closing all the way. I believe if something gets in the way the tray will automatically re-open. You can also take some compressed air and blow out the cd tray to remove any debris that may be blocking the tray from closing.
If none of the above simple steps work I believe it boils down to 2 things. 1. An object inside the case or tray that is preventing it from closing all the way or... 2. The eject button is stuck down.
If your comfortable with it you can take apart your xbox case and remove your CD/DVD player and ensure the button works properly. You can do a search on this site or youtube for instructions on how to take the case apart if needed. Once the case is apart the CD/DVD player is easily removed. You will then notice that the switch you press on the outside of the Xbox to open and close the CD/DVD tray is actually a lever that presses a much smaller switch directly on the front of the CD/DVD unit. You can then test your eject switch directly by pressing the button directly with a ball point pen or a pin. If the bay does not open and close properly at this point it may be necessary to replace the CD/DVD player and I do not know if it can be replaced or not. Hope this helps.

My right side does not play

Hi I have the CD-Mix 1 unit and my left hand disk tray is doing exactly as you describe, i have dismantled the whole thing and tested out and looked at as much as i can and everything seems okay. It's almost like something isn't quite lining up properly when the disk tray is closed because I have found that pulling down the tray door and using my thump to hit the right hand side of the tray itself eventually gets the disk spinning. The main issue is that when you hit the unit so hard the cd playing in the other tray skips as you would probably expect...But at least this information might at least let you spin up one and then fade/mix with the other afterwards.
If you do find out the exact issue, please email me at littleguydan@googlemail.com
Thanks!

What does it do if you put 3 discs in and select each one? You don't say what it does with the other two trays. It would help to know that they work. If not, you have a bigger issue. Let me know.

CD player damage

This can be a messy and frustrating problem to fix. You have to insure that the gears which control the opening and closing of the disc tray are correctly aligned with the apparatus inside. I have fixed this successfully on my own, but I must say it wasn't easy and involves removing the cover to give you better access, taking the tray out again and fiddling with it until everything is lined up properly. Might be worth sending for repairs.
