Question about Bosch 4000 - 07 Electric Table Saws

1 Answer

Looks like I smoked the rear bearing in my bosch 4000. I t would appear the back cover is also melted. Do I need a new cover as well or is there a fitting that goes inside? Or do I just try to find a whole new motor?

If the rear cover appears to have melted also I would replace it. Sometimes they use a bearing cup but if it got that hot I would buy a new one, they are not that pricey.

Bosch 4000 table saw motor

My Bosch 4000 froze up. Turns out to be the rear bearing. Replaced the bearing "6200ZZ" at the brush end. Works great now. If you are mechanically inclined, you may need a press to remove and install the bearing quickly.

I want to remove my table saw motor bosch 4000

Remove the end cap on the motor and remove the 2 carbon brushes. There are 4 screws that hold the motor to the frame and the field and motor housing will pull straight off. The armature will also pull straight out but will require some persuasion and finesse so you don't damage the fan blade.
The most common issue with these is the end armature bearing and with a bearing puller you can perform this with the armature still on the saw. If the bearing is frozen be sure to also check the rubber boot that goes over the bearing and also the motor housing where the bearing sits because it often melts from the friction.

Bosch 4000 table saw motor schmatic
I have found the most common issue is a bad field with the second being a bad rear armature bearing and last being a bad speed control.
Most of the time slow speed or even running backwards is a bad field (part #2 on the breakdown) #1619PA5590
Remove the cap on the end of the motor & the 2 carbon brushes.
Remove the 4 screws holding the motor to the frame and pull it straight off.
Check the bearing on the end of the armature to ensure it is not frozen or stiff. If it is also check the rubber boot that sits over the bearing and the motor housing itself to ensure it is not melted.

I have a bosch 4000 the motor is smoking and growling (like a bearing is going bad)

If the motor is smoking, yopu should not use it further. If it is a universal motor with carbon brushes, inspect the brushes for wear and replace. If the bearing is going bad, it has to be replaced. There is no easy fix for a bad bearing, except to replace it. You best bet would be to take it to a Bisch approved service center, or call them and get an estimate cost on repair. If too high it may not be worth repairing it over the cost of a new saw. If it is still under warranty, then demand for it to be serviced/repaired as part of that warranty.

Electric blade brake sounds like it is seized up. Upon starting table saw (bosch 4000), motor sounds like it is binding. How can I disengage the brake??

There is no electric brake on the Bosch 4100 table saw. If the motor sounds like it is being held back its possible the rear armature bearing has seized or the field coil is faulty. Both these problems cause the motr to not turn at full speed. The motor must be serviced.

Motor stopped spinning. it will barely turn in the counter direction, but wont turn at all in the right direction!

you have a motor/bearing problem. UNPLUG tool and turn on its backside and remove the back motor cover and see if the bearing has collapsed. and remove brushes to see if motor burnt

My Bosch 4000 table saw blade spins very slow. What the problem would be?

could be bearings locking up/seizing or do you smell any burning when running indicating the armature/field are burnt from possibly overloading with a dull blade.

Couple things I would look for first the condition of the blade do you see any buildup around the teeth like something has burnt on it. Also look into the area around the blade under the table (unplug saw first) to make sure that something hasn't dropped into it rubbing blade causing smoke. Also turn the blade by hand to make sure turning freely. The smoke could possibly be coming from a bearing. If it less than a year old Bosch has a pretty good warranty and you might look into that also. Let me know and I will dig deeper into it.
