This is more than likely your laser that is dead and its possibly a samsung or hitatchi drive, be careful when
buying a new laser because there is a lot of dodgy ones around at the minute which can damage your machine or
at the very least will be inferior and not last long.
its very possible it could also be your logic board which is a controller that controlls your dvd drive and laser etc. if this is faulty (and im betting its a samsung) then you might have to replace. you can pick these up for swap with the one on your drive for around £10 and can be effective but i would also checj the drive belt and make sure that is tight and working ok and tha laser too.
if your 360 reads dvd's but not games it may be repairable but if it wont read anything then your better off replacing the laser. strip down the console and strip the dvd drive, take out the laser and look underneath it, it will have a code such as HD57 or something else, note that down. Visit ebay and search for the laser with the same code, buy it, fit it in and make sure you de-solder the static blob of solder before using it (search the net about this or ask the seller) and then try your machine again :)

Testimonial: "thanks i'll try it out"
1, the disc may be dirty
2. the mian reason for this your xbox drive cannot read the disc , because the power of the lens is gone(not completely) ,
1. keep your disc inside the drive and switch off the console, again swith on try this 2 to 3 time
2. keep the console in vertical position or little slanding position(180 dg) make sure it does not fall
3. its better to buy hatddisc and load the game inside it , so that u lens life increased
4. change the entire drive

This can be caused by a dirty laser in the drive. Try cleaning the laser with a q-tip and alcohol. If this does not fix the problem, the laser may need to be replaced. Contact Microsoft and see if the unit is still under warranty. If the unit is not under warranty go to www.wiredextreme.com. We are a console repair company based in Texas, and we can clean/replace the laser for you. All of our repairs come with a 90 day warranty that covers the whole console not just what we repaired. We also offer extended warranties up to 4 years at additional cost. If you have any other questions/concerns feel free to email email@example.com or call toll free 1-888-389-3038.
