We were given a HOT POINT Heavy Duty Dryer with Automatic Dry Control, Model DLB2650BRLWH, Serial No. DG241274H and had to buy the power cord to go with it. Ordered the cord from a local appliance company,...

Technical explanation: Older 240 Volt appliances use a three-wire power cord (Black, White, Red). The White wire is the "neutral" connection, which is tied to Ground at the service entrance panel. The Black and Red wires are opposite phases of the 240 VAC (when one goes positive, the other goes negative). The neutral wire is "in between", so measuring the voltage between the black or red wire and neutral would give you 120 VAC. The green wire is frame ground; the electrical code requires newer (since 2008) 240 VAC appliances to have a separate ground bonding connection to the frame; the neutral connection is not considered adequate protection for certain failure conditions.

Look for a screw head or terminal stud on the frame or sheet metal of the dryer labeled "Ground", "Earth", or one of the following ground symbols:

The green wire goes to this point. DO NOT connect the green wire to any of the wiring inside the dryer, unless it is a green wire attached to sheet metal or a bracket!

The black, white and red wires go to black, white and red terminals you already found.

Neptune MDE5500AY Electric Dryer: electrical hook up...

If this dryer doesn't have a cord, you need to go to hardware store for a dryer cord, usually 4 wires 30 amp. the black and the red wires connect to the 2 brass screws with red and black wires already on the other side of the terminals. (oh, you should use a strain relief connector to run thru the knock out (hole) for the cable. The white wire connects to silver screw, which should have a white wire on the inside connection. Now the green wire connects to the green terminal, if there is one, or any other screw that should be marked as ground on the inside somewhere.
This should do it unless you don't have the dryer receptacles wired in yet.

Electric cord hook-up

White wire connects to the neutral (probably the center terminal), red and black to the most available terminal after the neutral lead is connected. Green wire is for ground... There should be a ground screw in the connector panel, but if not, be sure to securely attach the Green wire (ground) somewhere on the frame of the dryer. Be sure it makes connection with the metal (i.e. scrap off any paint, etc., where the terminal will be attached).

We need to attach a new pigail to the KitchenAid 750 LQI

Hi lvolkmar,
Perhaps I can assist you with your wiring dilemma. To begin with, you wil need to gain access to the back of the dryer so pull that out and locate the feedthru where the original cord fed into it. Next, loosen the cable clamp ( make sure the cord has been unplugged from the wall receptacle )..
Once you loosen the cable clamp, open the access cover to where the wires get terminated onto the terminal block of the dryer. You should see at least 3 locations... and maybe 4. Your dryer should have a red, black, white and or green terminal so match the red wire to the red terminal, black to black, white to white and the green is the ground wire... if you do not have a ground terminal on the terminal block then you should see a ground stud near the point of entry or near the terminal block itself. It's ok to use one of the sheet metal screws on the frame if you can't identify a ground terminal.
For the record, the red and black wires are incoming ac power, the white is your neutral which is normally wired between the red and black and the green is a frame ground for your safety. Hope this helps you but if not, feel free to restate your question or concern.,..

4 wire power cord connection

The difference between a 3 and 4 wire cord is the 4 wire cord separates the ground and neutral, where the 3 wire grounds through the neutral. The 4 wire cord gives an extra safety against electric shock. The red and black wires on the cord go to the red and black wires on the terminal block. Then you have to determine where the green wire on the dryer goes, if it has one. Some dryers have the green wire spliced into the white wire maybe 6 inches from the terminal block. If this is the case you will hook both the green and white wires on the dryer to the nuetral (middle) terminal with just the white wire on your cord. Some dryers have a ground strap, a flat narrow peice of metal that goes from the neutral of the terminal block to the cabinet just below it. If this is the case then remove the screw securing it to the cabinet and bend it back up onto the nuetral terminal, or remove it completely. Then hook the green ground wire from the cord to the cabinet of the dryer. Make sure all of your connections are tight, but be careful not to strip them. It's also important to hook up the strain relief to prevent any possible tugs on the cord from pulling on the terminal block connections.

first: the cord: The green is chassis ground. The white is neutral (a ground from the power company) .. red and black are 'hot'. Never plug this in until the installation is complete.

On the dryer, these are labeled as well. Install a strain relief clamp and nut on the wire setting up to go through the box knockout... nut on the inside of the'll tighten it after you make up the connections. Match up the blacks and reds. The others may be installed so the neutral and the ground are both connected to the same point if not separately labeled. If one of the points just goes to the chassis (there may be what looks like an arrow made up of 4 horizontal lines pointing down on the label)...hook the green there. Install the white to the other terminal...again it is called neutral. Make all connections tight. If the motor works when you start the're in business.
