Question about Philips Audio Players & Recorders

1 Answer

I have a Phillips 212 turntable that I bought in 1972-3. I took it out of hibernation after about 20 years yesterday and the belt is kaput. What belt number do I order and no I haven't found the manual yet, it's in a box somewhere in the same room! thanks, John

Why did it stop revolving?

The driving element, be it belt or rubber puck, may have failed. It's not an unusual failure in a turntable that is several years old and rarely used.

Turntable wont turn, what's up?

After 20 years of storage, you're surprised? If this has belt drive, the belt probably has disintegrated. If it has rim drive, the drive components have dried out and hardened. You may be able to get replacement parts but it will take a lot of searching

After 14 years my Technics SL-BD22 Turntable has a disfunction The electric motor turns slow.

Your turntable is probably belt driven so most likely motor is turning okay but belt is slipping.
They are easy to change, first just lift rubber mat on platter and you should be able to see the belt through a access hole in the platter.

Turntable belt drive keeps slipping off.

I have a Linn LP12. At least in the case of my turntable, that's just how you are supposed to use it (i.e. this is what the manual says). You could get a replacement belt f you like, but I would guess it will not make a difference - that is, I think you do not need a replacement belt.

However, in my case I don't have to be very careful about the start-up push on the turntable, just one tweak to get it rotating at about the right speed is enough in my case.

LP Turntable

the platter must be able to spin freely without a belt installed as shown in this video

that would be one likely cause presuming you have the correct new belt that is.

Check the drive band- it may have come off the pulley. But if it is a new purchase then perhaps it should go back to the vendor
