I have researched this model (I have also repaired many of them) and the noise is not likely to be a fan; if it is high pitched and or even grinding sound= Most likely case is bad color wheel in the light engine.

You would have to check to see if wheel is even available--some of these sets they do not sell it as a separate part--have to buy the entire light engine.

Understand that there are currently several class action lawsuits concerning this model Hitachi and the 60V500 made the same year.

Lots of failures with the light engine and part is over 600 exchange not counting labor.

If the wheel is available as a "part" someone will need to remove and dismantle the engine to replace it.

I attach a photo of what a typical color wheel looks like, it turns at over 10,000 rpm and bearings in the tiny motor wear out.

Let me know if you have any questions as I am here to help.

There is not a chance it is one of the fans, if they slow down at all the set detects this and shuts down and off.

Turn set off and listen and the sound will fade as the wheel slows down. Eventually the motor in the wheel will fail and you may get a grinding sound if it shatters and then it will shut down----note the wheel in inside the light engine and it would have to be removed to replace it, not so easy on this model.

Sounds like its the fan . The more demand you place on the system makes it run hotter so the fan speed automatically increases to compensate

Loud Humming Noise

Samsung is notorious for having the motor on the color wheel burn out. If the color on the tv starts to fade or shift tones when the rev'ing or noise is happening then you'll know its the color wheel. There are only two moving parts in this set, the color wheel and the fans. If you're smelling something, it could be either. Take the back off the set and put a piece of tape on the lamp door switch and turn the set on. Try to pinpoint the source of the noise. If its a fan, no big deal, Radio shack should have a replacement. If it sounds like its comming from under the set, dig a little deeper and try unhooking the color wheel motor, not as easy as I am making it sound but either way the fan is about $20 to fix and the color wheel is about $100. Sure beats a $400 tech bill. If you get stuck, comment back and I'll send pictures of the dismantle.

Sporadic Hum on HLP4663W

I would guess that its the fan for the lamp, as the color wheel will power down as soon as the power is cut. the cooling fans will continue to run

Tv makes humming noise when on. how can I eliminate or reduce the nose?

Some of the larger TV's are DISH ready, meaning that they have the tuner inside for SAT TV. The SAT tuners often have an internal fan that makes a humming noise. If it sounds like something other than that, you might have a bad component in your sound circuit that allows 60 HZ hum through the speakers.

If it is a rear projection LCG TV it has a fan in it to cool the bulb. You will hear the fan if you listen closely. It usually cannot be heard over the volume.

The fluorescent bulb and electronics inside make humming sound naturally. Kinda like when you turn on a lamp, and some lamps make a low humming sound.
