Why do I have rainbow colored streaks across my scanned image? The image is lying flat and we have put a book on the top of the scanner to make sure the image is flat. What do I do next?

If you are getting the streaks when you scan that means that the scanner cartridge is misaligned. try this.

1. Shut the computer system off, then disconnect the scanner from the power source. Leave the scanner disconnected from the power source for at least one full hour.
2. Reconnect the power, then restart the computer system.

If this did not fix it then it will need to go to a service center to have it repaired.

Good Luck

Hi,well this is problem which can be solved easily b you Curled, curved, or bowed pictures and photographs create this effect. When the light from the scanner crosses the curved areas of the picture, the reflected light comes off at an angle, producing a hazy blue fringe at the bottom of the scan. If the curve is severe enough, there can be rainbow colored streaks across the entire picture.

#Solution
Scanning from the scanner glass
Change the orientation of the picture or photograph from portrait to landscape or from landscape to portrait. If this does not correct the blue shading, place a book or other weighted object on the scanner lid to insure the picture lays flat against the scanner glass.

#Scanning with the Automatic Picture Feeder (APF)
Straighten the pictures as much as possible before inserting them into the APF. In order to accommodate the automatic photo feeding process, the scanner lid does not to compress fully against the scanner glass.
When pictures are not pressed flat during scanning, the blue shading or rainbow streaks can appear on the scanned image.
Bingo thats it...and you solved the issue :)

You have to use the "FILM AREA GUIDE" included with the scanner. This black plastic guide leaves a small area at the top of the glass open so that the scanner can calibrate itself at the start of each scan. Use the guide or leave at least 8mm between the top of your film and the top of the scanner glass.

execute a calibration to correct the wrong color:
  1. place your photo on the scanner, with a distance of 0.25 inch from the edge of the glass
  2. open Epson scan and select Professionnal Mode
  3. select the document source
  4. select the image type
  5. uncheck thumbnail then click Prevew
  6. crop the area of the image
  7. Click zoom to fine tune the area you see the streaks
  8. select the resolution of 72 dpi
  9. scan your photo

if the problem still not solved, you need to change the scanner unit , there are many dead pixels.

Is the scanner scanning normally otherwise? Try scanning a printed matter with white background and if it is okay, then the streaking may be because of excess brightness chosen. Check if the paper movement is at constant speed. If it is smooth paper, it may slip and the same area may scanned again, appearing like a streak.
