Question about E-Machines Computers & Internet

2 Answers

Yesterday my e-machines computer would come on but when it got to the boot prompt, it wouldn't boot and the screen would go blank. Now I have a new screen which tells me to select my boot device. There are 3 to choose from and I don't know which one to choose.

You should first try your hard disk. It may say fixed disk or IDE.

You need to chose the boot device that the OS software is installed on and if that one is not a listed option you probably have a hard drive failure which would explain why it would not boot properly before it asks you to chose the boot device.

Blank screen after boot splash screen

Hi.

After you see the press Del and F12 message repeatedly tap the F8 key, see if that gets to the advanced boot menu, if it does select "Repair my Computer" from the list, and then follow the prompts. Have your Win 7 disk ready just in case you need it.

Let me know how you get on and good luck!!

Blue screen of death

Run the recovery console and type chkdsk /r

Insert the Windows XP CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive, and then restart the computer.

Boot from the CD

When the "Welcome to Setup" screen appears, press R to start the Recovery Console.

If you have a dual-boot or multiple-boot computer, select the installation that you must access from the Recovery Console.

When you are prompted, type the Administrator password. If the administrator password is blank, just press ENTER.

Then type the chkdsk /r command

Let that run through and then restart the machine after it finishes.

If that doesn't fix it, run the Windows XP Repair Installation. You can find a walkthrough here - click here

The icons will appear.

if not,
Boot to the Safe Mode screen and select "Start in Last Known Good Setting"

I have a emachines w 3107 I tried to use the system recoverey disk. I went through the whole process, Then when it re boots a error says NTLDR is compressed press alr cont del , And I get the same error...

An NTLDR is compressed error is pretty easy to fix(much better then NTLDR is missing errors!).

First you need to boot to the recovery console.

To boot to the recovery console follow these steps:
1. Insert the Windows XP CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive, and then restart the computer. Click(or press any key) to select any options that are required to start the computer from the CD-ROM drive if you are prompted.
2. When the "Welcome to Setup" screen appears, press R to start the Recovery Console.
3. When prompted type "1" or if you have a dual-boot or multiple-boot computer, select the installation that you must access from the Recovery Console.
4. When you are prompted, type the Administrator password. If the administrator password is blank, just press ENTER.
5. Now you should be at the command prompt and ready to repair the ntldr file!

Now all you need to do is enter the following commands(in order) and each command on a new line just like you see them here:

cd \
attrib -c ntldr
exit

Your computer should now reboot, and everything "should" work.

Acer Aspire 5920G startup issues

If unit is not booting you cannot use the system restore tool. And if you have not created back up disks .................

At least you did not have the machine long enough to really load it up so reloading it will not be so bad. However, ......

Maybe you picked up some computer clap? Using another machine download the malware bytes program onto a usb stick and then boot up your vista machine via the F 8 prompt (desktop + networking) during bootup.

Then when on simple desktop, insert usb stick and navigate to the file downloaded and run the app from there. Good luck!!!
