Question about LG 42LC2D 42 in. LCD HDTV

1 Answer

Our picture is too large for the screen. Doesn't matter what format we have it on, the top, bottom and sides are all missing.

How do I get the picture to be as big as the tv

The picture is controled by the zoom on the tv remote and on the reciever remote. if you're looking at Wide screen containt the your screen will be black on the top and bottom, zooming will make it fit but you will loose some left and right info. Only HD containt formated for home tv's will, like Oasis, or National geographics, ect will give you full screen. Wide screen is for Movie theaters not TV. This realy sucks but to get a large Wide Screen Picture, You have to buy a supper large tv otherwise, the Wide screen image is small and wide and preaty much anoying with a short wide picture with black bands on top and below..
Sorry. We all have to live with this stuff.

What is diferent betwin 1920*1080p and 1920*1080I

Television pictures are a series of still pictures that are presented quickly to give the illusion of continuous movement.
1080p and 1080i indicate how these pictures are formed.
1080p is progressive scan. It is a format that "paints" the picture left to right, top to bottom. On older tube type screens, this would cause the top of the picture to be dimmer than the bottom, as the phosphers would fade before the next picture was painted.
1080i is interlaced scan. This format paints every other line from top to bottom, and then paints the lines it missed before moving to the next picture. This evens out the brightness.
If your TV is capable of 1080p, it is considered to be the best picture (but you probably won't see the difference).

Samsung plasma 42inch 1 month old has got 1 thin blue line 2 thin green lines from top to bottom on left side of screen

Most likely your control board: The board with the large processor that controls most of the picture formation is bad. Sounds like it is under warranty if it is only a month old.

The picture can be stretched from side to side but the top and bottom always have a large margin. Is there a way to stretch the top and bottom of the picture?

Are we talking about a signal from a dvd player? Possibly an upconverting dvd player. This is a function of the player. Try pan and scan vs letter box setting in thee dvd video setup menu. Your describing letter box. If the image is missing from the side its called side curtain. Scaling on the TV affects the curtain, but not letter box.

hi, this can be resolved by trimming the output in the formatting section of the menu screen. (display options). you wil want to choose the 16:9 format. this will keep everything inside the screen boundaries.

Missing bottom 1/4" of screen

It is possible that you have zoomed in your picture inadvertantly. Try going to picture settings and making sure that you are zoomed out all the way.

Hope that helps!
