Provided the drive is seen in the system BIOS, just missing in the OS, this should resolve:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060/en-us

If the drive is not seen in the BIOS, and it is removable, remove and reseat the drive. If still not seen, try another drive, if still not seen in BIOS, a Motherboard is a likely replacement.

Hi, The DVD/CD Rom Icon has dissapeared on My Computer. When I go to control panel - device manager and click on the dvd/cd rom drive icon I get the following message in the genaral...

You will need to re-install the driver. Right click the device in device manager and select properties. Navigate to the driver section and uninstall all existing drivers. (It may *not* give you the option to do that, depending on how corrupted the driver is, but it should.)
Reboot the PC.
Upon reboot, Windows should find the new device and install generic drivers. It will probably ask you to reboot a second time.

Open up the registry by typing REGEDIT in run box. and go to the follwing location.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
on the RHS you will see lower and upper filters simply go ahead and delete both the filters.

Open up the device manager (type DEVMGMT.MSC in run box) and uninstall the CD/DVD drive and restart the PC.
Once again go to Device manager give a Right click on the CD/DVD drive and update it.
Than check ............Your CD/DVD drive will be there in My computer.

I've format my motherboard with windows7 but unfortunately while it was formatting it reboot and the screen dissapear and just come out a blank screen

A little clarification - I assume you actually mean you were installing Windows 7 on your computer?
If you have a valid Windows 7 CD/DVD, put it in the drive of the computer, restart and enter the BIOS setup screen (you will see instructions on the screen as the computer boots up, might say press "esc" or "delete" key to enter BIOS or something similiar.)
MAKE SURE that the PC can boot from the DVD drive; this is normally an option in the BIOS marked "boot order"; make sure the CD/DVD drive is at the top.
Restart and the installation should start again.

Acer 5520g laptop dvd drive not regonized

If its not in BIOS then sounds like a hardware problem. usually only 2 cables connects to the cdrom, power & ide OR sata. usually these two wouldnt be disconnected so i suspect bad drive.

Gud morning, I my dvd desappered. I cant load any cd. the iocon is not showning. how do i rectify this. I am using HP Pavillion dv6700. my dvd device is "pioneer dvd rw dvr-k17b ata device". Please i need...

ok first of all has anything vhanged, there is a known problem when upgrading XP to vista, where te cdrom.sys rivers arent installed. this is fixable but tedious, if it just simply dissapeared without change, go to device manager:

XP: START> RIGHT click my computer > click "properties" > "Hardware" tab > click the "device manager" button.
VISTA: START> RIGHT click my computer > click "properties" > on the left click "device manager"

under DVD/CD-ROM drvices, you should see your dvd drive, now the field is probably expanded already and it most probably has a yellow exclamation mark next to the device, or it has a large yellow question mark. this means the driver for the vd rive has either failed or is not working properly.

quick fix for this is to simply RIGHT click on the device, click uninstall, confirm, and once un-installed, re-start the machine. apon restart windows should automatically detect the dvd drive as a new device and install it.

if there is simply no device listed under DVD/CD-ROM devices, or the catergory isnt there, windows isnt detecting it at all, which commonly means the dvd drive itself has failed, (the fact it may be powered and opens/closes is irrelevant). but before throwing it away, try changing the IDE/SATA cable. if the uninstall/re-install doesnt work, you may need to re-install it from a winows disk, which is a little tricky. but can be done. let me know if it doesnt work and i will pace you through it.

Windows x.p. home edition does not read my camera, also does not automaticaly read d.v.d if inserted into d.v.d. drive. Both used to work but have dissapeared, any ideas?

usually windows will recognize it as plug and play but there should have been a cd that came with the camera and for the dvd you will have to reinstall the drives from the cd that should have came with the dvd player
