Question about Kenmore Washing Machines

1 Answer

I have an old Kenmore Series 70 washer probably a '93 according to the metal tag inside at the back, looking at the tub... My problem is I don't know how to raise the top up to look at resecuring what I believe is the fill tube for filling tub after a rinse.. It is a clear... wide mouth plastic piece in the center at the back over the top of the tub..

This assumes that you have a basic Kenmore / Whirlpool top load, direct drive, neutral drain (it doesn't spin until the pump removes most of the water) machine.

First, see the Sears parts site for your washer:

Enter your model number (###.######) and you'll see a list of major sub-components with diagrams and parts.

Next, see the following for how to release the console and remove the cabinet.

Hello. i have a kenmore washer machine 70 series that jumps all over the place when its on spin cycle and yes I did make sure the washing machine is level. I just don't understand whats happening

Hi P, I don't understand why I'm getting these questions, because I'm in the automobile section, but as I'm here and so is your question, here's the answer! The machine is being thrown out of balance. Try loading the clothing more evenly and see what happens. If the fault reappears it will be the bearings and centralization mechanism inside the spinning basket. Keep in mind that centrifugal weight is increased as the tub rotates. If all the clothes (or most are on one side) the weight increases with the speed and will make the whole machine shake. If its something which has recently started after having had the machine for some time, I would suspect a bearing or broken mounting inside the spin tub. Regards John

My Kenmore smells like sewer. What could be the problem?

The problem is mildew that is on the outer tub (the one that surrounds the metal tub that you can see). There has been much written and discussed about this. I have a Whirlpool that smells awful if we don't leave the lid up and a fan on it. Whirlpool makes a product that will abate the smell somewhat, but the smell comes back and the product isn't cheap.

I have had temporary success with bleach or Lysol (the good old fashioned disinfectant in a brown bottle) but you have to douse the tub from top to bottom. Be careful with allowing bleach to remain in a washing machine as it will corrode all metal parts inside the unit.

I wish I had an easy answer for you. Prior to this washer, I had a GE washer for over 30 years that never, ever smelled bad. I want it back.

Good luck from Detroit, MI.

I have a heavy doty 70 series top load washer. The drum and agitator do not move and the motor is making alot of noise. What is most likely wrong

Older style Kenmore washers had a belt. This washer probably don't have no belt that drives the tub. It has a coupler to transfer the energy from the motor to the tranny. If yall washed a rug or comforter lately then I suspect the drive coupler might be broken:
Replacing the coupler is fairly easy. You need a set of screwdrivers and some pliers to repair this puppy. Flip up the controls so the case can be removed on these washers. You never work from behind on this washer. Once the case is off you yank the pump and motor off and remove what is left of the old drive coupling from the tranny and the motor. Don't jam the coupler on the motor or tranny too tight or you will have problems.

In spinning mode inside tub hits outside tub of washing machine of Kenmore .70 series, two speed automotic washer.

thats a 35 year old washer. we had one for years. the springs have lost their tension. youll have to run smaller loads, you can try sears parts direct for springs but they may not have them. It may be time to retire it. keep it for a backup in case you new one has a problem..

Kenmore Heavy Duty 70 Series Leaking in the back

If you bought a new washer and you still have a leak, i guess it was not the washer but where it drains into. Sink or stand pipe has a leak. unless you are useing the old drain hose from your old washer. Dry up everything and look for the sorse of water with a bright light when the washer drains .

I have a top loading kenmore 70 series washer. It

The drain line is probably clogged. Maybe that a sock or other piece of clothing get between the clothes tub and the outer tub that holds the water. In this case it may then get into the drain hose that's attached to the pump.Remove the hoses from the pump and pull the item out. In case it clean there, check the outer tub port- open the washer's main access panel and remove the large-diameter rubber hose that connects the pump to the bottom of the outer tub. Then, try to remove the clothing through the port.

Series 70 fills wit water stops then makes a slight buzzing sound

The electric motor my have failed or a part called a capacitor could be the problem? The capacitor is part of the starting circuit of the electric motor, if this fails the motor will not start therefore the washing machine won't spin or agitate.

Kenmore 70 Series top load washer makes noise during spin cycle

There are three springs under your machine. two that look the on each side of the tub. and one in the back of the tub. it is common on machines that are a bit older for the rear spring to wear itself through the metal at the bottom. if this is the case, it is best to get a new spring and just drill another small hole next to the old one. you might be able to get by with using the old spring for a bit longer....just drill another hole.

Kenmore heavy duty 70 series extra capacity

This could be from a few things. First test. Turn on the washer to fill it up about 3/4 the way. Now turn it back off. Does the water stop? No? You probably have a bad water valve. Replace it. Yes? Listen for the sounds of running water or look for water on the floor. Do you see/ hear this? Yes? Your pressure hose has probably come off, reattach it. If it does turn off and there is not further sounds or leaking water, you probably need to replace your pressure switch.
