Base from the description of your problem , the problem here can be with the wireless settings that you need to connect to that wireless network of your router.

If your router has a wireless security enable on it like WEP or WPA make sure that you have the correct security key because if you don't have that your computer wont work.

OK thank you for the information, since you're sure about the WPA key lets check if that computer is getting a valid IP address. To do that go to that non working computer then open command prompt, To do that click Start > Programs > Accessories > Command prompt once its open type there IPCONFIG and hit enter look for IP V4 then please to provide it to me.

Ok that;s the the reason why that computer is not getting online because its not getting a valid IP address, did you already restart that computer? if not please to restart it and check again the IP address.

if that;s the case we need to set static ip on that computer to make it work. Follow these steps on how to do that.

From the Start Menu, go to Control Panel > Network and Internet>Network and Sharing Center.
From the Tasks list on the left, choose Manage network connections.
Result: A screen appears with LAN or High Speed Internet.
Right click on Local Area Connection.
From the drop down list, go to Properties.
Result: The Local Area Connection Properties screen appears.
Highlight Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) and click on Properties.
Result: The Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) Properties screen appears.
Click on Use the following IP address.

This will be the value that you need there , then click OK all the way after putting those number in

How to configure router & switch

You shouldn't have to configure anything except the PC's should have IP and gateway set to auto.

Here is how it works:

A router connects two separate networks and manage the traffic between them.

In most home network applications the router connects your local group of computers and devices known as the LAN with the Internet, commonly called the WAN or Wide Area Network.

The router usually assigns unique Local IP addresses to all of the devices connected to it via a service known as DHCP. The addresses assigned by your router are private addresses and are not routable across the Internet.

Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) is an auto configuration protocol used on IP networks. Computers that are connected to IP networks must be configured before they can communicate with other computers on the network. DHCP allows a computer to be configured automatically, eliminating the need for intervention by a network administrator. It also provides a central database for keeping track of computers that have been connected to the network. This prevents two computers from accidentally being configured with the same IP address.

Your cable or DSL modem will get a Public WAN IP address from your ISP's DHCP service. These public IP addresses are leased in blocks by your ISP and are Internet routeble. The modem is connected to the WAN port on your router. The router will manage the traffic between the devices on the LAN and the Internet.

If your 5 port switch is connected to one of the router's LAN ports and router's DHCP is on then it will configure the clients attached to It automatically.

No wired network connection

you will have to open up your network connections

click start control panel network connections this may vary depending on your operating system look for local area connection if you see a red x or a yellow exclamation or question mark ! ? you will need to update or install the driver or it could be firewalled

If you are trying to connect through a modem/router you it should have come with a disk then
you might have to connect the usb lead to your modem to get a connection then

How do i get a netgearn300 router to get a connection from a wifi device

Well connecting to your router is simply a matter of joining your wireless network. When you try and connect to the PS3 the router will automatically route your traffic to the PS3. The real question is does a PS3 support SMB or CIFS (file sharing protocols) that windows will understand. If it does just enable them on the PS3. Then in Windows open up "Computer" and click "Map a Network Drive", select a drive letter to map to on your local computer and for an address it will be in the form \\<PS3 hostname>\<share name>

I have wrt160n router, when i tried to add my laptop(xp) it doesnt allow. msg says, "router has been set up but can not detect internet connection" pls help.

Likely you need to run the connection wizard in order to regain your connection. Also when using more than one PC with a router, some ISP's only allow one pc to be connected per account. To fix this problem, use the clone mac address feature in the router to clone the mac of the original PC that was connected, the router will then behave as that PC and split the connection by routing to any other pc connected using a single mac address. When you add a second PC because the provider only allows one pc per account - it then loses connection. The router fools the ISP by cloning the original mac.

Second computer cant connet through the router..

You must reconfigure the wireless settings on the wireless computer. Go to Network and Sharing Center > Manage Wireless Networks. Now you must delete all the prefered wireless network profile there. If they are all deleted, click on ADD > Click Add A Network in range of this computer > Select the signal from your router and connect. If it asks you for a network key, you should know that, otherwise, contact your router provider to determine what your network key is. That should solve it.

If it says local or unidentified network that means you are just connected to the router on the network but not through the internet. Try to go to manage wireless network, remover your network there and add it again, connect to your own network and make sure to type the correct network key., then check again. You can also try connecting to other wireless network to further isolate the problem.

Netgear WG602 wireless router, Connection Local only !

What I think is you unplgged them at the wrong times.

    Do this:
    (in this order)
    1. Turn off the router.
    2. Turn off the modem.
    3. take out all the Ethernet cords from the router, EXCEPT the one coming from the modem
    4. Now turn the modem on.
    5. Wait for the lights, then wait about another minute for it to settle.
    6. Turn on the router, make sure the Internet,Lan,Wlan, etc lights are on and functional if it doesn't display a light let me know.
    7. Now depending on what your wireless network (SSID) is called try to connect to it. Go to Start>Network>Click Network And Sharing Center at the top>on the left select Manage Wireless Networks>now click add, if your network is already on the list shown select it and click remove otherwise click "Add" click "add network in reange of this computer" select your network name and click connect.
Now tell me the errors, like if it says connection limited,etc...
