Question about Car Audio & Video

Open Question

I recently bought a cd/mp3 player for my car. The CD plays fine, but every time the engine is switched off/cd player turned off at the off switch, the unit defaults to the beginning of track 1. I read the manual and it says that this only happens if the facia is removed before switching the unit off... this has not happened. The facia is only removed when I leave the car at the end of the journey, and I make sure I switch the unit off before I remove the facia, in which case the unit should start in exactly the same place it was playing when I switched the unit off... turned off the ignition etc. Please can you advise. I took the unit out and refitted it making sure it was all correct. checked out the manual and all to no avail.

I recently purchased a Philips MP3-CD player and I wasn't sure it it will play regular commercial CDs as I don't think they are MP3 files.

It should play store bought cds. It may not play cd-rs of any type. Look at your owners manual to see what types of discs it can play.

Bought a car with a panasonic fx220n cd player fitted. The cd player keeps playing after the ignition is turned of, is it wired up incorectly

yup. There are two power inputs, one unswitched so the deck can remember presets, and one switched so it will turn off when you turn off the ignition.

Either someone hooked both power inputs to 12v+ unswitched, or they've hooked the two up backwards.

There should be a red and a yellow wire on the unit. Typically Red is the switched power input, and yellow is unswitched.

Cd's won't play

Its dirty, try a disc cleaner, (brushes not solution) and if that does not work, its time to replace, (unless the radio is all ya want).
ALSO- if you are trying to play burnt discs, (cd-r, mp3 discs etc) than that could be the issue as not all indash cd players support non store bought cds

I just bought a new pioneer cd player and i put a cd inside and it plays it normally but suddenly it changes to radio stations it's very strange

That is the symptom of a faulty selector switch. That's causing automatically switch up from CD to tuner station. Replaced the selector switch with a new one, so ks normal again.

Good luck;

CD player won't play MP3 CD's?

I have had similar problems in the past - on one computer discs burned using nero were unreliable but using Windows Media Player they were fine and on other computers the Windows programme was useless and produced unreliable inconsistent results.

I suggest you experiment with different burning software and maybe suspect the drive you are using might be past it's best.
I have several cd players in my vehicles and around my home. Only a couple of them will play all the discs and most of them are very choosy and will only read premium price shop bought discs and it is a waste of time trying to play a discount store or freebie disc, or many of my computer burned discs.

I don't know what the differences are - maybe it is the software or the power of the laser burning the disc or the sensitivity of the reading laser, but there are many differences in there somewhere. The situation is very frustrating...

Kenwood KDC-MP538U does not save settings like time and date

I have had the same problem, my problem was that i accidentaly hooked up the constant wire to the switched, and the switched to the constant, causing it to turn off completely, resetting everything. So if this is the problem then just switch the wires in the back of thew head unit, should be the fatter yellow wire, and the fatter red wire
hope this helps

Does it say it will play MP3 somewhere? This is a recent innovation with CD players Regular players do no include MP3 in the firmware.
