I cannot find the referred to 8 figure ID code on the back of my dlink adsl router (DSL-2740R) and cannot get connected to the internet !!

I know WHERE to look, but there is no 8 digit number amongst the various codes on the label under the router !The label reads thus: P/N: ESL2740REEUS.A1G
    S/N: PVOJ197001932

    MAC ID: 002401A3F158
    H/W Ver: A1
    F/W Ver: EU_ 1.05

There are very small codes printed on the router itself, namely FCC ID, and IC ID codes.. Neither of thes consist of 8 figures.

The label codes are duplicated on the outside of the box. I have been able to set the router up and my laptop picks up a strong signal but will not connect with the internet. A message shows when I try saying something about "unable to find server through WLAN port.."....and something about PPPoE . I can't telephone UK help as their number cannot be connected from Spain !! HELP.

Connect your router to computer with ethernet cable then you can access it with following default link. http://192.168.1.1 or http://192.168.0.1 or http://192.168.15.1 or http://192.168.2.1 If you are not able to access it with above ip then check your computers ip address gateway ip is your router ip try with it. Then it ask for user name and password. Type user as "admin" and password as "admin" or "password" or blank. Then you can see configuration page of router. Then click on wireelss ->wireless security ->wep security Note down WEP code it is your password to connect wifi. . Let me know if you need further assistance. Thanks for using FixYa.

You need to look underneath your router for your PIN code, it is printed under there.
Your user manual is below, look in there for all your answers.

My DSL-2730B keeps dropping the internet connection. Can you pleae help me? Thank you, Paul Bryce

Since your using an adsl modem, possible that is a problem with your adsl box or your adsl line. I would suggest you to call your ISP so they can further check your line and also your adsl modem .

You may also contact dlink so they can perform a firmware update to your modem , below is the link for their website.

To configure the modem You will need to use the cd provided.

  7. Password: admin
  8. Use the quick setup wizard.
  9. It will be more easy for you to configure it.
  10. Be sure to have the username and password from the ISP for the internet access, you may need to reconfigure it from start. or if you may need to reset the modem
  11. At times to access your modem you will need to set the ip of your network card to the same range.
  12. To set the ip go in control panel then open network connection
  13. Doulbe click the local area connection.
  14. open Internet Protocol Open Tcp/ip
  15. then set your ip Like: 10.1.1.5

Unplug both devices, and remove the cable/dsl line input to modem, wait 5 minutes, plug cable back it, then turn on modem, wait a minute, then plug in router. The signals should mesh.If not, buy a new router, theyre cheap!~

Connecting 2 routers (ASUS WL-500W and D-Link DSL-G604T Wireless)

This will give you a "Double NAT" setup. Meaning, Your D-Link router is connected to the external internet address assigned to you by your internet service provider. More than likely this is a DHCP address you do not control. Your D-Link router is then translating the address to the 192.168.1.x network. This is the first NAT translation. You are then connecting the ASUS router to DLINK, causing a second NAT translation. (Internet ADSL --> D-Link WAN Port --> D-Link Lan Port --> ASUS WAN Port --> ASUS Lan Port to computer/server/etc. ) If both of your routers are giving out DHCP addresses, then this is all that is required.

D-Link DSL-2640

First I will need to know the type of ISP service you have, T1 - DSL - ADSL - CABLE - etc. And the connection type, STATIC IP - DYNAMIC IP - PPPOE - etc. BPCS
