First of all, you need to make sure your power adapter is providing enough power to both run the laptop & charge the battery. A very good way to do this is to compare your laptop voltage & ampere requirements (written on a sticker on the bottom of the laptop) with the voltage & ampere ratings of the power adapter. Voltages should be the same, or the power adapter's voltage about up to 0.5 volts more than the laptop's voltage rating. Amperage of the power adapter should be at least equal to or greater than the laptop's rating. It should never be less than the laptop's rating, or else the power adapter will be providing insufficient amperes to charge the battery. Of course, the power adapter's nominal amperage might be ok, but it degraded on usage. You can verify this by testing using a good or new power adapter.
If the battery did not charge using the new power adapter, take the battery off the laptop, & using a dry tooth brush, scrub in between the fins of the battery connector on the motherboard & on the battery it self, then put the battery back into the laptop & try again.
If this still did not resolve the problem, then the battery itself could be bad. Try it on another laptop, or try a good or new battery in your laptop.
If this did not work, there might be a possibility that the charging circuitry on the laptop's motherboard is defective & needs servicing. In order to do this, the laptop needs to be disassembled & the motherboard checked for defective/burned out components in the area near the DC jack. Any defective/burned out components found should be replaced, or you might need to replace the laptop's motherboard altogether.

Shut down Computer. unplug AC. Take out battery. Plug in AC. Start up computer. Disable Microsoft ACPI CC Method Battery (I really didn't see the point in uninstalling it...). Shut down computer. Unplug AC. Insert battery. Plug in AC. Turn on. Enable Microsoft ACPI. Then it was working

SOURCE: Cant find the fn button

The fn button on my gateway is the last button on the left in the first row. You should have gotten a diagram with your netbook. Please look at it, it may be in your manual.

Hi. Im changing my internal hd in my netbook. Im wondering if it can support a 1tb hd.. I have a gateway lt21 series and it was running under a 250gb.. Thanks

well the size of drive has a few issues that need clarification can you provide actual model number from under the netbook and operating system. Also what 1 tb drive are you considering. There is a subtle difference among them and not universally exchangable(no matter what they say)

let me know this information and then we'll find a quick answer

No video at power up

See if the problem is the graphics chipset before going any further.

If it isn't then the problem lies with the Video Cable, (Gateway = LCD Cable), or the Display Assembly.

The heading states Gateway LT2104u Netbook PC. This is what I'll be basing the solution on. However the main part of the solution, will apply to all laptops/netbooks.

1) Laptop OFF, monitor OFF, connect a VGA monitor to the VGA port (Connector) on the Left side of the netbook.

[ External VGA display port.
This is an example of a VGA connector, (Port), and a VGA Cable,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VGA_connector ]

The external VGA monitor can be a CRT type, (Cathode Ray Tube. Looks like a small TV), or a flat LCD screen monitor that has a VGA cable.

2) Turn the monitor on. If a CRT type allow it to warm up.
Turn the netbook on.

By default the display should be shown on the external monitor.
IF not;

A) Press, and hold down on the Fn key, and at the same time tap once on the F5 key.
(The Fn key is at the Bottom/Left of the Keyboard. The F5 key is at the Top of the Keyboard)

No display still?
There are at least 3 display options;

1) Internal monitor of the laptop ONLY
2) Internal monitor of the laptop AND external VGA monitor
3) External VGA monitor ONLY

You may have to hold down on the Fn key, and tap the F5 key more than once.

IF, NO display shows up on the external monitor, you have a bad graphics chipset.

[ Chip and Chipset are slang terms for I.C.
Integrated Circuit,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Integrated_circuit

The GPU is the graphics chipset,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GPU

The GPU for a Gateway LT2104u Netbook PC is an Intel GMA950 ]

IF, display does show up on the external VGA monitor, you have either problems with the Video Cable, (LCD Cable), or the Display Assembly.

LCD Cable:

1) Connections;
The LCD Cable connects TO the motherboard, and TO the back of the LCD screen, in the Display Assembly.

IF, either connection is loose, you will have display problems.

Check both connections.
This requires partial disassembly of the netbook to access the motherboard side of the LCD Cable.

Also requires partial disassembly of the Display Assembly (Gateway = LCD Module) to access the connection at the back of the LCD screen.

2) Damage;
Observe the LCD Cable on the motherboard side. See if there are any obvious signs of damage to the LCD Cable's sheath.
The most susceptible area to damage is the area under the left Hinge.

However, the LCD Cable should be removed, and a continuity check of the cable should be performed with a multimeter, set to Ohms.

(By checking the connections, you are at a point anyway, that removing the LCD Cable should be no problem)

LCD Cable checks out OK?
LCD Module problem; (Display Assembly)

The LCD Module consists of the;
1) LCD Bezel,
2) Camera Module,
3) LCD Module Brackets, (Includes Hinges)
4) Microphone Module,
5) Wireless 3G Antenna,
6) WLAN Antenna cables, (Wires),
7) LCD Screen Assembly,
8) LCD Module Cover.

Primer:
An LCD screen does not produce light. It needs an additional light source.
A Backlight is the additional light source.

A Backlight can be a CCFL, or a series of LED lights.
(CCFL = Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp. Similar to Fluorescent lighting used in homes, and businesses)

The Backlight for the Gateway LT21 series of Netbook PC's, is a series of LED lights.

There is no screen Inverter that is replaceable by the consumer.
The repair is to replace the entire LCD Module.

http://support.gateway.com/s/notebook/2009/gateway/lt/lt21/LT21sp4.shtml

To conclude:
If the problem isn't the graphics chipset, (Motherboard replacement), and it isn't the LCD Cable, the problem is the LCD Module.

Gateway LT21 series of Notebook PC's, Service Manual, (Free),

http://www.tim.id.au/blog/tims-laptop-service-manuals/#toc-gateway

Go to where it states Gateway 400. Drop down to the second line, (EC54), and scroll across to LT21 in blue.
Left-click on LT21.

This is a PDF file. The computer you are using now has Adobe Reader on it, which uses PDF files.
After you click on the file name (LT21) it may take up to 30 seconds, before the first page comes up.

{ You can save this Service Manual to your computer. This way you can burn it off to a CD disk, AND remove it from the computer to save harddrive space, and not have to temporarily download it again }

My Acer Aspire Nav50 was just fine a few weeks ago but now cannot get above a 5% charge. It is only about 15 months old and I have reason to believe the battery is just fine but possibly has a bios...

There is a known issue with a BIOS bug in some of the Acer models that it prevents charging. Try upgrading the BIOS from Acer online to the latest version following the online instructions.

Acer netbook battery cannot reach 100% charge?

As rechargeable batteries age they build up what is called a 'memory' or a 'charge memory'....

Let me explain how this works...you have a new battery and you run your laptop normally until it hits 15% charge then you charge it up and use it again until about 15% then charge it again....with the charge only dropping to 15% the battery builds up a 'memory' of that over a period of time (usually over at least a year up to a couple years) and then your battery's maximum capacity is no longer 100%. Same thing happens if you dont charge it fully each time, after a while it becomes incapable of taking a full charge.

What you can do to stop that in the future....when you get a new battery every now and then run its charge down to 1% then charge it to maximum. By doing that on a regular basis you help make sure the battery remembers its full charge capacity.

I have a lt21 series netbook and there is a crack in the screen. i am trying to figure out how to take the netbook apart so i can order a new one.

if the notebook is working then just forget it...keep using it...
if you take it appart then something else may go wrong....it's little tricky to do the job of taking it apart and fixing it back...like a jumble puzzle....

if you still feel it need to be fixed contact a tech shop...
spend few $$$ and get an expert to do it...

My six month old, LT gateway netbook wont charge...50% percent HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!

sounds like you'll need to get in touch with gateway for warranty repairs/replacement, though, you may try to remove and reconnect the battery, check for BIOS updates from gateway that may include fixes on battery charging , and test if the battery will have same issue when connected to another system, if available. Try to also leave the netbook connected to the adapter/charger for a few hours while switched off as it can help the battery to charge faster.
