Question about Refrigerators

Open Question

Sub zero 700 BR drawer refrigerators suddenly does't cool. The LED lights are on and responds to adjusting settings, but no cooling power. I also have a garden variety refrigerator in the game room (low tech, low value) that the freezer works but the refrigerator part doesn't cool. Any ideas? It is very difficult to get a Sub Zero repair person as I bought the units out of state and no one wants to service if I didn't purchase it from them! Thanks for any help available.

SOURCE: Sub Zero Freezer Vacuum

If your freezer temps are ok, it may just be that your gasket is getting older and it becomes more porus as it ages. The vacume sound doesnt really mean alot except that the difference in the room temp and the cold of the freezer create this vacume.

SOURCE: Sub-Zero 650 -- lights/fan not working

you can check the bulb's resistance if they still have. they could be both busted. if they have, the problem could come from thre door switch if you have mechanical door switches that controls bulbs. on the LED read outs, you could have a loose connection to the main board because if the board is not functioning well, then you should not have a cooling refrigerator.

please rate me, i hope i was able to solve your problem.

SOURCE: Freezer not working on Sub-Zero 550 Refrigerator/Freezer

You probably need to defrost freezer - frozen moisture possibly stockedevap. fan motor in the freezer. Turn it OFF for 24 hours and start itover. Make sure no moisture condensation on the freezer compartmentsurfaces as walls and shelfs. If so wipe it out. Pull out and remove upper basket from the freezer, push fan switch which is located almost under ice maker. You have to hear evaporator fan motor start working. Still not work? Call to professionaltechie! Good luck! :)

SOURCE: sub zero 700 TR error code 06

Error code six means: from SZ
Refrig. evaporator thermistor read open or shorted for 10+ seconds, or repeatedly read erratic temp’s
Erratic temp can be many things such as an open door. Clear the code by holding the bell key for 15-30 seconds or until you hear a tone. Keep an eye on your temps for a couple of days. If it comes back its time to call a service tech. If you are in OC I have the number of the best tech for Sub Zero in all of SoCal. There is more tests that can be done depending on how tech savvy you are.

SOURCE: Sub Zero side by side frig. side not cooling. Freezer works fine

There is a fan inside the freezer and possibly the fridge. It circulates the cold evenly throughout the unit. The fan may shut off with the door open so hold the door switch in to see if you hear the fan. It's behind the rear cover on the inside.

May tag side to side fridge the fridge is too cold. the fridge has started to freeze

Hello Daniella,

Interesting problem to have.

Your FREEZER temp should ideally be set at zero... or just immediately below... and the REFRIGERATOR at 33°F or immediately above freezing.

For my own comfort... after fighting with my formerly friendly refrigerator... I purchased the TAYLOR "Classic Freezer and Refrigerator Kitchen Thermometer-REFRIG/FRZR THERMOMETER" from eBay... ... less than $6 each

After breaking one of my incredibly expensive (Taylor - recording) glass "green-house" thermometers (oh well... still cheaper than a repair... by a LONG SHOT...!!).

Your local variety store or Amazon are probably a better choices... (I'm a long time buyer on eBay... greasy old car parts).

Your refrigerator cooling is completely a by-product of your FREEZER operation... adjusted by the clever use of fans and airflow.

Sometimes a sudden change is REFRIG cooling can be attributed to a significant shift in HOW you have your packages arranged in the FREEZER... but life is typically not that easy.

Before you actually rip your refrigerator apart and start trouble shooting... IF possible... It is best to unload everything and completely defrost your unit... open , dry and powered off

Plug it all back in and start over completely anew.

If then... it is still failing...

The thermometer(s) will help you to determine which side is not cooperating with YOUR ADJUSTMENTS...

For actual trouble shooting... once you have determined if it is the freezer or the refrigerator... find the appropriate temperature sensor on your wiring diagram... that is the cheapest part to experiment with... BUY IT.

Try using the specific part number on an online search... get at least three prices... and look at SEARS Parts prices... for ABSOLUTE worst case pricing... (same part... terrible price!).

Got it?
Sears Parts... No!

Your primary logic board... will be the worst/high cost item
that could be causing your OVER-COOLING problem.

Good luck and happy hunting

My freezer drawers are very warm All food defrosted smells horrible even after cleaning. Should I clean condensor, temp is not cooling?

It is likely the condenser fan is not functioning, or the condenser is dirty. You may need to open the compressor access panel to check. If you can hear the compressor running, and the condenser feels warm, the fan should be running. If it isn't, it probably needs to be replaced. Another symptom is the area around the doors feels warm.

Sub Zero 700 suddenly stops after 12 years. Compresser is burning hot.

The compressor will normally be 100 to 110 degrees. I would suspect the thermostat or mouse damage in the freezer area. Also, if you keep it overstocked, to the point of poor air circulation, you could just have ice blockage. Put the frozen food in a styrofoam cooler or a good heavy corrugated box and give the unit a good full defrosting.

My sub - zero 700 br will not cool stays at 54 i have cleand it but still will not cool runs all the time as well

It has a refrigerant charge port on it. I sounds as though it has a small leak and has lost freon. I recommend that you call an expert. If you have a good friend in the heat and air business, sometimes they can help you. Otherwise call a refrigerator expert. hope this helps.

Left door open on Sub zero model 650

It went into self protection mode. Just leave it closed and when the compressor cools down enough, it will start. Once the ref starts to cool, the lights and such will come back on.

All of this assumes that no failure was caused by the long run times when the door was open

Sub-Zero 532 not cooling

Simple think I guess - just pull down a little a plastic fan blade on motor shift it will produce a powerful air flow. Fan blade should sit pretty close to the shift end. ;)
