Have you cleaned the pick up roller?? If not try cleaning it with hand soap (it's as good as anything else) failing that replace it, the part number is RL1-0542-000CN

HP P3005DN Tray 2 pickup roller does not turn. Hear clicking sound but roller doesn't turn to pickup and feed paper.

Hi

This is a problem with the Pickup roller.

Try to inspect the paper pickup roller, on the right side of the roller you can find a small notch which gets coupled with the shaft it will be broken. You have to replace the roller.

Please see this solution from Canon. It is recommended you check your manual for the proper procedure for clearing paper jams. Incorrectly removing jams could damage your printer. Trust the following helps resolve your current issue.

If you do not have a manual it can be downloaded from here:

Issue: More than one sheet of paper feeds while printing

Solution: Clean the paper feed rollers using the MX300 operator panel

sikaku.gif Cleaning the Paper Feed Roller (Roller Cleaning) Clean the paper feed roller if paper is not fed properly. Cleaning the paper feed roller will wear the roller, so perform this only when necessary.

1. Make sure that the machine is turned on, and then remove any paper from the Rear Tray.

2. Clean the paper feed roller.

(1) Press the Menu button repeatedly until MAINTENANCE appears.

(2) Press the l_mark_s.jpg or r_mark_s.jpg button to select ROLLER CLEANING, then press the OK button.

The paper feed roller will rotate as it is cleaned.

3. Repeat step 2 twice.

4. Open the Paper Output Tray.

(1)Put your finger in the rounded indent beside the Paper Output Tray and open it gently.

(2) Open up and set the Output Tray Extension completely by pressing down the hollow on its front side.

5. Make sure that the paper feed roller stops rotating, then load three or more sheets of A4 or Letter-sized plain paper in portrait orientation in the Rear Tray.

Set the Paper Thickness Lever to the left.

6. Repeat step 2 three times.

The paper cleans the paper feed roller as it feeds through the machine.

If the problem is not resolved, wipe the paper feed roller (A) located on the right side inside the Rear Tray with a moistened cotton swab or the like. Rotate the roller (A) manually as you clean it. Do not touch the roller with your fingers; rotate it with the cotton swab.

The paper is not feeding into the printer. I think there is a problem with the rollers.

If the paper does not make it out of the paper tray, this will be a pickup roller issue. This is the roller that initally feeds the paper up into the paper path. This can be replaced, but you may nee a tech to do it. It can also be cleaned. Turn off the printer, remove the paper tray, and look inside. The roller will be about 2 inches wide and is probably a grey color. Using distilled water only on a qtip, clean the roller, changing the qtip frequently. Allow to dry completely, or wipe gently dry with a lint free cloth. Reinstall the paper tray and try printing again. If this does not resolve the issue, contact a tech for replacement. Should probably cost about $50 total, including part.

I cannot get the paper to load into the printer

I had an issue with the cassette tray paper feed. I loaded paper in the rear tray, manually used the printer properties button to make it print from the rear tray and printed from there. The next day I manually did the same thing but forced it to print from the cassette (bottom) tray. It worked fine today. It no longer thinks that there is no paper and the rollers are picking up the paper edge for proper feeding of the paper. I did not go through the roller cleaning procedure but I would do that if switching back and forth manually between trays doesn't work.

HP Deskjet, Photosmart, and PSC Printers and All-in-Ones - 'Out of Paper' Error Message and the Printer Does Not Pick Up or Feed Paper

Content starts here

Issue
An Out of paper error message appears on the computer, and the product does not pick up or feed paper from the paper tray.
Solution
Complete the following steps in the order provided.
Step one: Reset the product

1.
Without turning the product off, remove the power cord from the back of the product.
2.
Wait 30 seconds and then plug the power cord into the back of the product.
3.
If the product is not already on, use the On button to turn it on.

Step two: Check the condition of the paper and reload it

1.
Replace any paper that is ripped, dusty, curled, wrinkled, or bent.
NOTE: Use only plain, white, unused paper in the product until the issue is resolved.
2.
Make sure that all the paper is the same size and type. Because only one type of paper can be used in the product at a time, paper types should never be mixed.
3.
Tap the stack of paper on a flat surface to align the edges.
4.
Make sure that the stack of paper to be loaded in the product is no smaller than 10 and no larger than 25 sheets of paper.
NOTE: Do not load too much paper in the product.
5.
Insert the stack of paper into the product and gently push the paper guides snugly against the paper. Make sure that the paper is completely inserted into the product and can be picked up by the paper rollers.
6.
Try printing again. If the issue is not resolved, try loading different brands of paper and different types of paper, one type at a time, into the product and then try printing again.
If the issue persists, continue with the next step.

Step three: Adjust the paper settings in the print driver
The paper settings in the print driver must match the paper settings for at least one of the installed paper trays.

1.
Open a document in the program being used to print.
2.
Click File , click Print , and then click Properties . The product Properties dialog box appears.
3.
Click the Paper/Quality tab.

5.
Choose the appropriate paper type from the Type is drop-down menu.
6.
Click OK and then click OK again to print the document..
7.
If the issue is not resolved, continue with the next section.

NOTE: If the issue is resolved and it is necessary to print on another type of paper, load the new paper type into the product and then repeat steps 2 through 7 for the new paper. These changes do not change the default print settings. The print settings return to the default the next time the program is opened.
Step four: If necessary, obtain the HP Paper Feed Cleaning Kit
Locate the serial number on the product.

*
If the third and fourth digits of the serial number are 56, 57, 58, 59, 5A, 5B, 5C, or 61 , then use one of the Contact HP links on this page to contact a support representative. If the product is still under warranty, the support representative will send a free HP Paper Feed Cleaning Kit (part number c9000-67901).
If the product is no longer under warranty, this kit can be purchased from HP online. Click here for region/country ordering information.
Figure 1: Serial number with third and fourth digit circled
* If the third and fourth digits of the serial number are not listed, the special cleaning kit is not necessary. Continue with the next step.

NOTE: The HP Paper Feed Cleaning Kit requires the product to be connected to a computer running Windows 2000 or XP with a USB connection. If the product is not already connected with a USB cable, connect it before using the HP Paper Feed Cleaning Kit.
Step five: Clean the rollers

1.
Turn off the product and unplug the power cord.
2.
Open the access door to gain access to the rollers. Depending on the model, this is usually the rear access door. See the product user guide for information about locating the rollers.
3.
Clean the rubber rollers with a lint-free cloth, lightly moistened with water.
NOTE: Distilled, filtered, or bottled water is recommended for cleaning the rollers. Tap water might contain contaminants that can damage the rollers.
4.
Make sure that any paper rollers that rest on the input tray, which are located behind the back rollers, are cleaned. A clean cotton swab, lightly moistened with water, might be necessary to reach these rollers.
5.
Close the access door and plug in the power cord.
6.
Try printing again. If the issue is not resolved, continue to the next step.

Step six: Service the product
If you have completed all the steps listed above and are still experiencing a problem, service the product.
Cause
Any of the following issues can cause the error message to appear:

*
The paper trays are empty or overloaded.
*
The paper is curled.
*
The print side, or shiny side, of the paper is not loaded in the input tray face down.
*
The paper might not be engaged with the feed rollers.
*
The paper-width guide is pressed against the paper stack too tightly.
*
The paper tray is not completely inserted into the product.
*
The paper settings in the print driver do not match the paper loaded in the paper tray.
*
The rubber paper-feed rollers are coated with dust.
