Question about Pentax *ist DL Digital Camera

2 Answers

Been shooting with my Pentax *IST DL on “AUTO PICT” and “AF” for the last few weeks with no problem. (with and without the flash.) As of yesterday however, anything I shoot is coming out dark. Even with the use of the flash on a subject 3 or 4 feet away (still in auto mode) photos are still dark. Please Help! Is my camera dying? Thank You :)

I am having the same problem after I got my CCD cleaned by someone. Can someone tell me where the factory restore setting is? I have looked but to no avail. Thanks.

1. Clean the contacts on the camera body and lens where they meet with a cotton swab lightly dampened with rubbing alcohol. 2. Go into the menu and find "reset" to go back to the original factory default settings. 3. If you have a second lens, does the same problem occur?

Thanks for the suggestions. Tried them all and images are still coming out dark.

OK...my next suggestion involves you going to the Pentax web site. Click on the support section topics and you will eventually get to a page that offers "live chat" in the corner. Set up a live chat with an actual Pentax tech person and you can type back and forth as they give you suggestions to solve your problem. There's no charge for that service either.

Hi, i have a pentax ISTDL and when i try 2 use it in manual focus the AF still works on its own

Check your lens there is often a AF/MF auto/manual focus switch

Other than that it could be a problem with the camera take it to your dealer

The problem is with waking a sleeping Pentax ist dl: touching the shutter button doesn't reawaken it. To enable the ist dl to shoot requires turning off the camera and of course switching it on again.

This is a common problem with all the ist's. Try cleaning the battery contacts inside the camera with a pencil eraser and then with a cotton swab lightly dampened with rubbing alcohol.

AV error whn pentax ist DL & Quantaray zoom lens attached

I've got the same problem. The problem is that the lense is loosely attached to the body. What you need to do is that when you see the Av flashing, press the lense of the camera to the body and twist the lense to the left a bit. This tightens the connection. You can then take the photo.

PENTAX IST DS PROBLEM WITH INTERNAL FLASH

First make sure the camera is not set to No Flash on the shooting mode dial. Also, in P, Tv, Av or M modes the flash reverts to manual and must be raised manually by pressing the button next to the viewfinder.

Compatible Flash Units

pentax istDL does not support TTL flash metering unlike most of the other pentax DSLRs. You need a flash that is P-TTL. How annoying hey? I was pretty bummed, but it made me learn to shoot fully manual...

i think that there is only one P-TTL flash on the market at present. (AF540 or something)

good luck...

Pentax Ist DL auto focus not working anymore after using Quantaray AF LD 70-300MM Lens

It seems to be a connection issue between the Lens and the Camera body. Perhaps the mount is not true to the body Ask Pentax about this their Technical Support Team

Flash on ist DL

Looks like its true... Another major disadvantage. Removing TTL means removing one more hardware piece - TTL sensor. Pentax removed almost every nice feature, which needs some aditional or more expensive hardware: no TTL flash, less AF points, pentamirror... Seems like I bought Ds right in time.

Can *ist DL do High-Speed/Wireless Flash?

According to the manual (page 153), the DL DOES support P-TTL flash, with the built-in or external flash, but only supports high-speed flash with an external flash. What I'm wondering is, what is high-speed sync flash useful for? The only thing I can think of is fill-flash outdoors.
