My 1995 chevy c3500 won't start. I turn the ignition and gauges come on but nothing else happens. Has new battery in it. Right before this happened, i started it and the starter wouldn't disengage. Even after i turned key to off and pulled key out! It stopped and started right up again just fine. Was driving truck and got to stop sign where it died and wouldn't turn over again.

Won't start how ? no crank - no start , which means when you turn the key to the start position nothing happens , starter doesn't engage. Or the starter turns the engine an it doesn't start an run. a crank - no start ?
Yes it could be the key switch. You would need to check for power at the starter when it fails to crank. There is also a neutral safety switch in the circuit.
The dash lights coming on doesn't mean your battery is strong enough to turn the car over. That being said, I would lean towards the starter also. I would just have the battery chkd out before you go replacing other things just to be sure. Good luck to you.
Make sure all the ends on your battery cables are clean and tight. I got a tow in because my car would not try to start even tried boosting to no avail. All my lights and radio was working but they said the cable was corroded and would not let the full power work. We replaced the battery cables and worked like new now.
Check and clean, if necessary, your battery terminals - and then make sure they're tight and secure. I had this happen once with an old Subaru: everything electrical worked (although the lights were very dim, wipers were sluggish, etc.), but the problem turned out to be loose and dirty battery terminals. Started right up after that. . .
check starter make sure its working.if all is good check to see if the instrument lights and gauges is working if not.you have blown fuse or bad ignition switch.
