SOURCE: My RUUD UBHA 21J8SFGAI is not cooling my house

Compressors for household ACs are not repairable. Usually if a compressor goes bad, whole condenser unit is replaced.

Can you see the condition of the coil itself? If it is blocked this could be a cause for the frozen coils. Also, check the condition of the blades on the indoor fan. Dirt and dust accumulation on the blades reduces airflow.

My mother in law has a Ruud 10 Seer air conditioner. She's had it since 1998. The air conditioner runs fine but it will only cool the house now during early morning and evening hours. It no longer...

couple thoughts hee. 1. If you allowed the filter to get really dirt you might well have a "blanket" on the evaperator coil that is not allowing enough air to move over the coil. 2. Low on charge. 3 the compressor is getting ready to give up the ghost.. Bad valves? Check and see in the afternnons if the suction line at the compressor is wet or cold. be careful when touching these lines as the discharge is HOT... But my guess is low charge... Bad compressor..

GE model TFX24JAX side by side seems to run bt

Good day,
Either the refrigerant charge was lost, or the compressor will not run.
Remove the back bottom cover, and see if you hear the compressor running.
If not, you can remove the start components mounted on the side of the compressor. take them to an appliance parts house and have them tested. They include a start relay, overload protector, and on some models a start/run capacitor.
If they check O.K. then you're in serious trouble with the machine.
P.S. Freon is a gas. It doesn't leak onto the floor, just evaporates into the air.

If both fans runs (inside and outside), check if the compresor runs , if does probably the unit is low in freon and needs to be recharged after the freon leak has been fixed (remember this is a seal system and it shouldn't leak), but if the compressor doesn't work , it could be the capacitor , the pressure switch (if it's low on freon ) or the compreessor itself. But befor do anything ,if you have a digital thermostat replce the batteries.

Fridge wasn't cooling but freezer was working, now both aren't

Hi,Your husband did good job, after cleaning and vacuuming, did freezer (bottom) have excessive ice?, if there's excessive ice in bottom, after cleaning, you have a defrost problem, but if there're no ice in freezer after cleaning, you got freon (gas leak) , there's a condensate loop, that passes through ref. body, from compressor that naturally develop, freon leak after few years, by rusting, normally it can be by- pass. vacuum and refill with freon, if there's no freezing, but compressor running, you'll need a mechanic, you got a freon leak. good luck.

Kitchenaid refrigerator stopped cooling

Yes, it will cost you at least $150.00 for a repair tech to walk to your house, but your case sounds like your motor had problem, When the motor running loudly for several weeks, because it lack Freon R-22, that why made a loudty noise, some place is leaking very slowly, your compressor need freon. I think it is going to cost you at least several hundred to repair it, but if you can find a used working Reg.probably you can save some money.

Please ask your friend who might give you some their opions.

Does the fan on the outdoor condensing unit come on when the compressor does? If so, Is the condenser coil clean so that the airflow from the fan can remove heat from the condenser coil so the compressor won't overheat and trip the internal overload compressor protection circuit? If yes then is the indoor evaporator fan working properly? If yes are your filters clear and evaporator coil clear so that adequate air is flowing over the coil to prevent the compressor low pressure protection circuit from tripping? If so is the refrigerant charge on the system correct- either overcharged or undercharged can trip the compressor protection circuit. By now you should have come across an explanation for your compressor short cycling. If I had to guess I would bet on inadequate airflow over the condenser coil do to a faulty condenser fan motor either not turning at all or turning for a few minutes and then stopping when it overheats. This is likely caused by an unsealed replacment motor being used outdoors and water/rust has accumulated over the winter season and/or the capacitor is bad (in this case the motor may be turning slowly backwards) or just plain old worn out. I hope this helps get you to cold air sometime soon GL!
