Question about Polaris Pb4 - 60 Booster Pump
Just fixed two myself. One I caught early enough - not too much collateral damage. Both needed the mechanical seals on the pump replaced and both needed new impellers (damaged due to heat build up when seal went bad. Impeller cost at pool store is about $23-$28. Seal at pool store is about $10. Of course, both can be had cheaper online if you can wait for them to be shipped. Easy job really.
If yours has been running a while in this condition, you probably have toasted your motor bearings. They too can be replaced somewhat easily but if I were you, call a local electric motor repair shop to have them inspect and repair, as necessary. Will probably cost you $50-$75. Still, cheaper than purchasing a whole new pump

Welcome to FixYa
is with the impeller or the chopper assembly that is causing this screeching
noise. You can take apart the bottom front access panel and clean the drain
pump assembly completely and check for any broken parts inside that need
replacement. If the problem returns then replacing the impeller/drain
pump-motor assembly is recommended repair. Please get back to me if you have
any other questions.
