I have located the t-con board and i have carefully replace it only to have the same problem.I made sure the part was the correct part number . not sure what to do now.

  • chriscokid64 Sep 17, 2010

i appreciate your help. let me try and give a little more clarity on the tv. after long periods of no being turned on sometimes as little as 1 hour or more the picture will return normal, and will be ok for another 15 min. then the picture will begin to scramble only on the right side then i get lines and then lose the would seem to me their could be a temperature problem, with some component. the longer i turn the tv on the longer the recovery time to keep it off and the process begins all over again. just trying to give more information to make your diagnoses more accurate. would a bad lcd screen behave in this manor. i also notice when left over nights will work for longer periods when ambient temp is cooler.thanks

That is caused by a failure of the t-con board - the board that actually commands the screen, connected to it directly by 2 wide ribbon connectors. You must replace it, a new one will cost you less than $90.

In that case sorry, but it's unfixable - the defect is in the LCD panel itself. Time for a new tv.

The behavior you describe (finally with sufficient details) has absolutely nothing to do with the T-con board or the LCD panel - otherwise the colored lines would be there from the start, looking the same.

What you describe is called image corruption and it's caused by a malfunctioning image processor or corrupt data coming from it to the t-con board. Since the problem appears as the tv is already functioning, it means that (as you guessed) it's heat related - the processor heats up and an fault in the transfer of the data to the buffer memory becomes apparent.
The mainboard must be tested, you have a bad soldering on it. In the mean time you should try to increase the air flow to enhance the cooling: enlarge the air ports on the rear casing and even add a small fan.

Red vertical line down right side of the screen

I think your TV have a trouble inside lcd panel
the controller board contains driver IC. Deffective driver IC can cause of line display.

Three reasons why one vertical line accross screen can happen in LCD;

1.The missing signal from the controller IC to
LCD driver.
2. LCD driver IC itself defective
3. Dry contact in the tape carrier package.

Use masking or electrical tape to mark it where the line was located. press it if the line back to normal but when release your hand came back i think it was intermittent. Open the LCD panel

Use robber
Place the rubber on the top of TCP
Gently close back the top casing

Good luck...
