Updated tool for restore Windows hard drive data

If the hard drive will not boot, use the Windows installation disc to repair the operating system. If that fails, install a fresh drive and install the operating system. Then attach the old drive to restore your data.

If you accidentally erased your hard drive data, you may need to purchase recovery software, or send it to a company to recover your files.

Hard disk is not running frm last boot

hi,
- This means that your operating system may have collapsed and needs repair.
- To repair, enslave your hard drive to another machine by:
- Make sure the second computer has a good operating system.
- Remove the hard disk from your computer.
- Remove CD/DVD Rom from the second computer and fix your hard disk on
that drive.
- Start the computer. It will display that you're running on two drives.[Unix]
- Press F1 to save changes and continue.
- The machine notes one drive needs repair and starts the repair process.
- After it has completed and opened your system, turn it off and remove the
hard disk.
- Fix it on the first machine and start it.
- If this fails, you may need to format the hard disk.

Hi, yesterday my hitachi external hard drive is fallen to the floor and after that it is doesn't work. but the lights are working. i want know can i take my old data from hard disk and can it...

Dropping hard drives is a sure way of damaging the drive. There is no way us mortals can repair a damaged hard drive that has been dropped.
Retrieving data fromdamaged hard disk is possible. There are companies that can remove the diskplatters from the damaged hard drive and with special equipment may beable to recover your data, but it will cost you an arm and a leg for theirservices. The reason for this high cost, they dismantle and remove the plattersin the hard drive in a clean room environment and set up the platters up injig/drive to retrieve/copy the data.

Head for my 1000 gb hard drive

Hi.

Hard drive heads are not sold as spares. You also cannot do the job at home. Hard drives are built and repaired in vacuum environment, using a facility called clean room.

You cannot repair an hard drive head or internal motor at home, the result will be a not working or completely unreliable device.

Service to repair an hard drive head in clean room starts at no less than $800.

Repairing hard drives?? you cant repair surface problems on hard drives. you may be able to repair/replace the circuit board which controls the hard drive but this is a fairly uncommon problem. For data recovery off damaged hard drives you need a very expensive clean room and very very expensive tools.

Hard drive

Hello hubert lee,

Generally there is only one of two ways to resolve this. Depending on the severity of the corruption.

1) If the hard drive can not be repairable - purchase another hard drive and if possible install the operating system and re-install all the software programs onto your new hard drive. The corrupted hard drive, depending if you have important data to recover, you may want to take it to a local pc repair shop and see if they can recover your data.

2) See if the hard drive is repairable - you can download a gateway scan (GWScan5.12) from theere website and follow the simple instructions to copy the file onto a floppy diskette (will need to do this on another pc). Then run the GWScan, go thru an extensive hard drive test and wait for a result. At some cases, it may be able to repair your hard drive (again, depending on the severity of corruption). The following is the link to download the GWScan5.12 http://support.gateway.com/support/drivers/getFile.asp?id=21280&dscr=GWSCAN%205.12&uid=20276003

Good luck and thank you

Repair dead hard drive

dont go with repairing hard drive because if it gets repaired also you can not depen on it ,because it may crash at any time and data is always important.so go with replacing the hard drive
if you want to recover something from your hard drive go with recovery software............
Good Luck.

Most ACTUAL hard drive failures are fall into one of three categories: ? Read/write head failure ? On-board electronics failure ? Damaged or worn disk platter. If your hard drive was working then you experienced a hard drive error your only real chance of ?repair? is to format the drive from scratch and run chkdisk (or similar program) on it to identify and block out any bad areas on the hard drive platters. In the case of a physically damaged board some people have had some success swapping an IDENTICLE board from another working hard drive. Since you ruin a drive (unless its dead as well) to fix another that is only something you do to recover data, not fix the drive. The bad news is no home user has the skills, tools or clean room environment to successfully replace the heads or platters in a hard drive, assuming you could buy them. Typically posts that give bad news are marked poorly and the only reason I?m posting this is to try to save you some aggravation and time so be kind 

bricked hard drive? Would folling this lead to a full hard drive format or just unbricking a drive like people sat it does?? Also any other ways that might help would be great to know, heres what i'm talking about! "Fixing The Drive NOTE: Commands for you to type are in red boldface. Pay attention to upper & lower case - it is important. Turn on power to the RS232-to-TTL adapter and the hard drive. After a few seconds, Press CTRL+z. You should then see a prompt like this: F3 T> If not, swap TX & RX wires. Access Level 2 (type /2): F3 T>/2 (enter) F3 2> Then spin down the (disconnected) motor: F3 2>Z (enter) Spin Down Complete Elapsed Time 0.147 msecs F3 2> Very carefully, remove the cardstock that you placed between the PCB and the drive head contacts. Carefully replace and tighten the 3 loose screws. I suggest using a small piece of masking tape to help you hold the screws while you put them back in place.
