Question about Refrigerators

2 Answers

Hi Folks -- I've got a must-do today warm fridge job that just came in, so here's hoping you can help me pronto. [Your TV champs have been doing wonders for me since day #1.] It's a Frigidaire PL8S67EESB5, and the freezer is remaining at 5F so far, but the fridge started warming up last night and is now at 55F and aiming for room temp of 75ish. I'm fairly new at teching with fridges so I need all the smarts you can give me, plus please tell me the 5 or 6 likeliest parts that I should buy and take with me. The owner pushed against the interior back wall of the freezer, but could not feel or hear the crunch of icing up, so please give me coaching that's based on both scenarios -- icing up and not icing up. Many thanks, Frank // Gramps // renthelp // BDCD928E

    Hi Caroldon --

    Many thanks for big help.

I need you to help me clear up my understanding of a few of your above points :::

#2 Would the auto defrost timer be located just above the ceiling of the refrigerator compartment?
#2a Please aim me at a site on the Net where I can see a good pix of this unit that will show me clearly where each suspect part is.

#3 Check what on the defrost heater coil?

#4 Are you talking about the thermostat that clamps on to the coil tubing just as it enters the freezer compartment?

@5 If I find that the problem is in the area of the auto defrost section, what parts should I suspect first? The auto defrost timer? The defrost coil heater? Other?

Thanks again for your help. You have saved me some bucks already.

The freezer is the key, remove the inner panel and blower fan from the inside of the freezer compartment ,check to see if the drain bellow the evaporator coil is stopped up,and froze .If so,the drain has trash, and debris in it stopping the water flow and therefore freezing up.Also, check the deflector door in the unit, this is controlled by the control in the freezer, not the fridge compartment, set the control to a lower setting ,warmer if you will. This will cause the coldest air to be deflected to the fridge area, but it still will be freezing in the freezing unit. Then adjust the thermostat in the fridge compartmenttto a colder setting, this controls the cycling of the compressor.

1. Possible that instead of speculating open the back to see for icing. If so does tto fan work or is blocked. If fan is not working chnage fan.
2. If fan is working into a choked chamber then the auto timer is not worrking.. checck auto defrost timer.
3. Check path of the air flow of the fan. Check on the defrost heater coil.
4.Possible that the thermostat setting is not reacting in the fridge section causing the icing. Check for broken leads.
5. Put fridge on test after 6 hours an check during this period if cooling is OK. If so the fault is in the area of the auto defrost section.
6. Confirm the test before you buy any part.

Normally the timer is located at the rear bottom of the fridge, the heaters just above the coils that frost up.
You can trace from the heater coil wires to the timer unit.

Hi.. feel the dividing rdge between fridge and freezer.. is it warm?.. chances are that the little fan at the back of the fridge freezer that helps cool the compressor, has snagged own it's own wire... it's a weak fan, like you get in a computer, but it does a lot of work.. without it, the coolent does not do it's job, which results in your device not cooling things properly

Hi folks,
IS, the freezer so packed full with packages that they are covering the air vents in the freezer that must be open to share the circulation with the fridge?
