Check both the compressor capacitor and control board. The fault indicating faulty circuit board. But still check the compressor start up capacitor. If the capacitor is weak then it will let the compressor to start on low settings but on high settings it will not be able to give the start up to compressor. To get required parts for your unit, you can get it from the website below. Please click the link directly:--- http://www.appliancefactoryparts.com/airconditioners/fedders/aed24e7e-d.html ----------- Thanks. The availability of the part is solely in the domain of Fedders. So call up the dealerr close to your place or search for the support site of Fedders with the place of your residence.
Now the second part is that since you are an A/C tech , if the compressor is running for about 30-60 minutes , during this period of time if there is cooling according to the desired level, then you can bypass the relay to keep the A/C running. We are then left with the question of cuting off the compressor when the thermostat detects which can be checked in this control panel. If the detection of the thermostat feed into the mP is corect, then the Mp can be working erractic due to some wrong inputs. Here you can check and disable the timer .
I hope you must apply this logic to work if the compressor is cooling well.

Dont have the colour codes but if you can back track your check from the relay coils , the driver semiconductor and controller IC will come into focus. The fault can here.

When I turn my window unit on, it will cool for 2 - 3 minutes. Then the fan turns off and the compressor continues to run for maybe another 90 seconds, then shuts off.

Make sure the filters are clean. Check what mode it is on as well. On heating, it is normal for there to be a delay before the unit starts up and then "run on" when turned off. Also check what temperature is set on it. If the temp is too high, the machine will cycle on and off as it thinks it has already reached the temp you want.

Maytag m6x06f2a like new but doest blow cold air

Make sure the Thermostat is set correctly! The problem with mine was the temp in the house was colder than my A/C lowest thermostat setting.I had my AC temp setting on 66 degrees. The temp in the house was a little lower so the AC didnt kick on just the fan blowing cool air and no compressor working. The next day it was warmer out and the house temp was 79. So when I powered up the AC set at 66 i heard the compressor kick in and the AC worked fine.

My Whirlpool window a/c is not cooling as well as it did last sum

I know it has been at least a year since your post. I am answering the post to terminate FixYa site activity on the post.

Remove the front cover. Check the routing of the temp sensor wire. It should go from the bottom of the control panel to the plastic clip in the evaporator coils. If it is touching the eavporator coils it will sense the refrigerant temp and cycle off early. If the unit is freezing up there is a restriction in the coolant lines and usually will require the coolant system be purged of foreign internal debris.

Thanks for choosing FixYa.

Compressor will not turn off but cannot find the location of the low pressure switch to change it. blows cold but will not cycle off...

there is a thermistor switch located in evaporator case(thin black single or 2 wires) that makes the compressor cut in and out (cycle) it monitors evaporator temperature.
check head pressures with air cond charging station or gauge set and monitor pressure on high and low side (150-200kpa on low, 1500-1800kpa on high good average depending on ambient temp) if it is low on gas due to leak this can also keep compressor running longer due to evaporator temp not reaching lowest threshhold to cut compressor out

Ac turning on and off

How did they check the freon in the home? You can feel the front(evaporator coil)coil on all four sides. Are you sure the motor is running fast enough? If the four corners do not feel cold in about 5 minutes or so, there is a compressor problem, Capillary tube blockage, moisture in the system or you are low of freon. Good Luck

Motor never turns itself off

If by motor you mean the compressor itself then no, it should not run all the time. The compressor should run until the thermostat senses the temp. is at where you set it then turns off the compressor. A couple of possible things... if the unit has a leak in the refrigerant then it may run almost continuously since it can barely reach the cold setting you have selected. Or the temp. sensor thermostat may be bad and the unit doesn't know to turn off. There is also a defrost cycle that happens about every 12 hours for a few minutes (depending on make/model on how it works) but that should also turn off the compressor and fans until the defrost cycle is completed. Basically it should turn off when the temp. setpoint is reached or when it's in the defrost cycle.

Refrigerator freezes everything even on the lowest setting

Is everything really frozen or just the top shelf stuff? You may have a thermistor (temp sensor) problem if the compressor just runs and runs and runs all the time. Take a glass of water and place a thermometer in it for about 3 hours then take a temp. reading. That will let you know what the real temps are. See if you can cause the compressor to kick off and on by changing the temp settings (go to real low for about 5 minutes then back up to high). Let us know what happens.
