Open MPC and goto file menu > view > options > output and set SYSTEM DEFAULT for all.

Have you checked with your directX version to see if there are any errors encountered? To do this, go to Start/Run/dxdiag.exe
Run the tests and see if it has any problems in there. If there are no problems, then the culprit might be in your MPC configuration. Sometimes re-installing it with defaults enabled will remove any codec errors, so you can get back to watching movies.
Incidentally, have you tried VLC player? It has a rather large range of video and audio formats that it play, plus it's got the best price : FREE! :)

I would download and run the registry
utility from iobit.com
It is freeware and works then run CHKDSK/F.
