Question about Washing Machines

1 Answer

I have the Whirlpool cabrio, 2years old I believe now. During the spin cycle, I hear a crackling sound from the bottom back right side of the machine when it pumps water out. It almost sounds like a loose piece inside the pump or something. Other then the sound it makes which is not continuous, the machine does not bring up any alarms or codes of malfunction and pumps water just fine. Any suspicians what it may be? Worried about something ready to go.

I too have had noises that sounded like a loose piece inside the pump. And the washing machine began leaking from the larger right rear pump. I took it apart and found a dime inside. The dime had punched a hole through the outer plastic shell of the pump body. And you can't buy the outer plastic shell separately. Rather than spend the $110 for a new pump, I mixed up some West System epoxy with some fiberglass strands and bonded most of the outer shell back together. Worked great! But tonight, the same problem. I took the right rear pump apart, no problem. So I then dismantled the left rear pump and found -- a dime. So I'm going to remount both pumps closer to the floor so I can fit long hoses to the pumps and fit some kind of separator in the feed hose to each.

I am really ****** that Whirlpool wouldn't have considered the possibility that tiny objects would end up in the pumps and cause problems. Whatever happened to the separators that Frigidaire used to put in their washing machines. And we are REAL careful to check our pockets for change, tiny washers, etc.

Leaking water from bottom of washer

Did you hear a clicking noise during the spin and drain cycle? If so, then change has gotten into the tub and discharge pump and cracked the plastic housing on the pump. had the same problem. Had to replace the pump.
