Hello Ginko, Working on this 42"LG 3000, I have checked all supplies from the Power supply which are correct, including scoping for any ripple,I also notice that if you remove aerial signal, this set will stay in standby mode, if any signal is present it will not stay in standby,(pulses comes back on again) yet i have changed the AV board as expained, I cannot seem to find a tech line for LG do you know of one?
obviously i have tried factory re-set etc, to no avail, customer uses this set in a bedroom and needs to be able to switch to standby, and it stay there.

Before replacing the main board, the PSU should have been tested. This TVs PSU provides power on different voltages, and each voltage is controlled through a low DC control line from main board. A defective PSU may turn off and restart by itself.

In real word I repair many LCD TVs. I do not get tired of repeating that LCD TVs are very different from home computers. Repairing by simply board swapping does not work. Although this units have few parts, the working process of the TV does not allow identifying reasons of faults from symptoms (with a PC you can often tell), parts are expensive, and testing is always necessary.

In your case for example the problem is likely a faulty PSU, but a bad grounding caused by missing screw may also cause the problem. The PSU, which is likely culprit, must be tested by jumping the control lines and reading volts to main board. This is made more difficult by the fact that the TV is forcing shut down, and turning volts off continuously.

    Hi.

Problem eviidently was not the AV board. I think there is a grounding problem. The antenna is grounded, TV finds its ground through antenna coax cable. Ensure that all internal screws holding boards are mounted properly, they warranty grounding to boards. Check earth on wall socket.
