Hi there.the box you need is known as a media box,and basically contains the tuner, teletext decoder etc.have a look on ebay, there may well be one listed.also the link cable is very expensive new...most of the older plasmas used a separate media box.as it is,you should only be able to use the set as a computer monitor.
regards,
steve

Can jvc vm-42wx84 be used as a monitor without tuner

This is a screen with a media box. The box has two connections to the display panel. The first looks like a DVI connector. The second is the proprietory control port connection. This is how the set receives commands about brightness, contrast etc, scaling, aspect ratio. It might even control such basics as power on/off.

You could try the panel just with a DVI connection, but you will have to make sure that all sources are scaled to the panel's native resolution (1024x768) before they reach the screen. This is part of what the media box does. You might be okay if you're driving the panel direct from a PC graphics card. But if you want to run it with a variety of different sources then you really need to use the JVC media box.

I can't say if the Hitachi media box would work.

You can use either input to use the monitor as long as you have the correct cable. HD15 to DVI can be converted and so can HDMI to DVI. Only hold up is the type of DVI. There are three types and I cannot remember for sure the designation but I believe there is an I, S and a D. The device will have to be able to display in a matching format.

Hi my problem is that without to do anything the monitor is sawing the operations about the screen and cant stop because the monitor dont respond my orders. please if anyone knows how to fix this,give...

It sound like your auto display setup menu is appearing on the monitor. If so, it probably says to press 1 or 2 to stop the display. If this is the case, then the #1 and #2 it is referring to are the buttons on the monitor-not your keyboard. If you look closely at the monitor controls, you will see that at least 2 of them are numbered.
Let me know if this is the correct problem.

I got this tv from a friend but it needs a "control box"

This model has all its connections through an "AV control center" connected by a cable to the main unit. This is the "box" you don't have.

You can get a copy of the manual here:

http://www.hitachionlinestore.com/manuals/32_42_50HDT50.pdf

You'll probably need to contact Hitachi at one of the numbers in the manual or through their website about getting one of these control centers. You could also try eBay and search online for possible sources. But the set isn't very useful without the box.

P50h401 50 inch hitachi plasma tv

Its difficult to guess what the problem is with the given info. How ever I think its probably the ceramic fuses and burning smell is due to burnt resistors, caps or something else. I would suggest that you get the back panel off take a snapshot(High resolution) of the suspected area of damage so that i can assist you further. By the way you can upload the pic in an imagehosting site like imageshack.us

Set up

Seems that Hitachi DESIGNED the sound to cut off from the Audio Out jacks if you use component video or HDMI inputs. Has to do with copyright laws of the HD Video -- which makes it asinine that they disabled the audio as well, as it's not part of the copyright issue. Seems to me they were just lazy to disable the ENTIRE set of output jacks.

I am hoping to find some sort of hack for this (either firmware or severing/splicing a control wire). However, I can't find much information on this yet.
