Computer power supply does not work

Need to know how old a computer it is as over the years the power supplies' use different methods of starting.

On newer computers the power supply is connected to the mother board by a 20 or 22 pin connector. The power button on the computer is just a momentary switch to start the computer. Make sure the large connector is firmly seated in the mother board. If you are comfortable with doing that have someone else check it. You do not want to damage the connector or mother board. You need to have some sort of anti static device conntected to your body to avoid any static discharge that could damage the mother board.

Green power supply light is flashing so power is getting to the computer, however the computer will not start from start button. Have removed case and tried ***** start button. Didn't work. Comput

Power getting to the computer/Power Supply?
Yeah.

Power Supply good? -> NO

A) IF ALL of the LED lights were on at once, they would use less than 1 Watt of power.

B) EACH fan uses 2 to 3 Watts of power.

C) A typical Processor can use from 51 to 125 Watts of power.
Just depends on what Processor it is.

HP Pavilion a810n Desktop PC?
Uses an AMD Athlon 64 3300+ processor,
(Operates Up To a frequency rate of 2.4GHz)

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&docname=c00280647

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_amd_athlon_64_microprocessors#.22Newcastle.22_.28CG.2C_130_nm.29

Can use up to 89 Watts of power.

Your Power Supply doesn't even have enough power to spin fans, much less start the Processor.

Want to test the Power Supply? Have a multimeter?
No? Have a power supply you can borrow for a test unit?
KNOWN to be good, and Compatible?

Just brought new memory for my acer aspire sa90 desktop, now my computer doesn't seem to turn on

i assume computer was starting correctly before? this is older computer and it is using sdram memory, locket on them sometime do not clip in correctly.

1. switch off computer
2. remove power cord
3. remove side wall
4. remove sdram
5. check sdram orientation and type, if they correctly align with registering notches
6. release lockets to max, (outward from slot)
7. re-insert correctly oriented sdram till lockets close into sdram stick (you may give them bit "help" to close in position)
8. re-connect power
9. start computer

if copmuter start normally, that meant tha tyou fixed the problem, if not, switch computer off and remove power cable, check motherboard power cable insertion, and repower again.

if computer start, lose cable was the problem.

if computer still do not start, remove new memory and re-nstall old one, if computer start, new memory will be a culprit.

if computer no fan "jig" and no light blink, remove all power supply cables from motherboard and connect in it's place new power supply, to exclude power supply problem.

if computer start with new power supply, old power supply will be the problem,

if computer do not start, and no joy with checking, but fan is running, including on the processor, this will indicate either, motherboard or processor died... if that is the case further testing will be required to determine which is exact cause. as in home situation there are usually no motherboard testing equipment, you need to go to more difficult path of changing the processor, checking video and haveing second computer on which you can test all of that...

replacement board for that processor on ebay cost from about $0.99 plus postage. if you need any further advice, please re-post adn if i am on line today, i will provide you with further procedure how to test your video, motherboard and processor.

if you find my advice useful, please do not hesitate to leave your comment and vote 4 for me, thanx!

Acer one notebook no display and automatic shutdown

= if your laptop computer will not start =
laptops have power supplys that can lock up
the power adapters conectors break all the time
and the batterys are designed to be "con$umable$"
so

- - -- - -- - -power reset - - -- - -- - -- - -
remove the power adapter's wall plug &
leave the power adapter plugged into the computer
but pull the laptop battery out of the laptop.
press the power button just like you are trying to start it
but press it longer, this will drain & reset
the internal supply, now relese the button.

-- - -- - -power adapter only test - - -- - -- - -
reconnect the power adapter's wall plug
press the power button to start it with just the power adapter ,
If the power adapter starts the laptop on its own go down to
"If the computer can be started"

If the power adapter does not start the laptop on its own
leave the power adapter plugged into the computer but
remove the power adapter's wall plug & press the power button
just like you are trying to start it again,
then relese the button

- - -- - - battery only test - - -- - -- - -
unplug the power adapter & put the battery back in
press the power button to start it with just the battery

if the battery starts it on its own go down to
"If the computer can be started"

if the battery ALMOST starts it on its own
DO NOT BUY A NEW ONE! it may only be discharged
locate another laptop just like yours and charge it,
and yes this is crazy and yes i am sorry!.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
- if your laptop computer cannot start at all -
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

this can be caused by a bad;
connector ($5-$60), power adapter($5-$60),
battery ($70), internal supply ($40-$90),
or main/mother board ($100-$300)

If the internal power supply is bad or if the
power conector fails at random (intermitant)
most of the cost is determined by how dificult
finding parts and dismantling the laptop is
and if it's external or internal

HP a820n No Power-up after City Power Failure

You have a bad power supply. It is not an expensive fix. Remember HP's take HP power supplies. When ordering either look on ebay for your model or order from part supplier.

Fan Races Computer Won't Start

The fan is drawing too much current from the motherboard causing the power supply to go into protection mode. Try replacing the fan with a new one and see this this does not fix the start up problem. You should check out your power supply and see if it really delivers enough power to power all the devices in your computer. The power supply could have weaken due to overheating and aging. Try checking the voltages with a software device like speedfan or hardware monitor and see if the voltages are intermittant or out of specs. These programs can be downloaded free from their websites. Just google them to find the websites. If they are you should replace the power supply. Hope this helps you with your problem.

Apple iMac 17 Model A1058 won't turn on

Re the light turning on for about 3 secs.
Does the computer make a 'start up' chime or any other tones?
If not, this could be for a variety or reasons.
Firstly you need to verify that the power supply is working. Remove all connections from the computer including the keyboard and mouse. Try to start up again. If the computer still fails to start up, you will need to gain access to the computers internals.
Lay the computer face down on a soft cloth to protect the screen. Undo the 3 silver screws on the lower edge of the computer. (one at each end and one central. These are captive screws.)
Lift the rear cover away from the main body of the computer.
On the Logic Board there are 4 diagnostic LEDs indicated by a yellow arrow on the board. To the left of these LEDs there is a small button. This allows you to power on the computer with the rear cover removed. Connect the power lead. LED1 should be 'ON'. If it is 'OFF' then you need to replace the power supply.
Turn the computer on by using the internal power button.(LEDs 2&3 should now be 'ON'. If LED2 only comes on momentarilty then replace the power supply).
Does the computer start up normally after pressing the internal power button?
- Yes: Press and hold the power button until the computer powers off.
• Unplug the power cord from the iMac, and reinstall the back cover.
• Return the computer to the upright position.
• Plug the computer back in, and press the power button to turn on the computer.
• Make sure the computer is starting up properly. If the computer will ONLY start up
from the internal power but will not power on from the power button on the back
cover, the power button on the back cover may be faulty.
- No: Reset the SMU.
• Unplug all cables from the computer, including the power cord.
• Wait 10 seconds.
• Plug in the power cord while simultaneously pressing and holding the power button
on the back of the computer.
• Let go of the power button.
• Press the power button once more to start up your iMac G5.
If the computer starts up normally then shut down and replace the rear cover.
If you feel uncomfortable about working on the computer, take it to a reputable repairer.
Hope this helps.
