Question about Acer Computers & Internet

WLAN problem on a Acer Aspire One 531h. Hi, I have some problem with my WLAN adapter (Atheros AR5B95). My WiFi connection became unreliable, and came up with "restricted internet access" every time I tried to connect to the internet. I tried all the usual stuff like restart, disconnect/connect and renew the ip address in comand promt. Finally I tried to reinstall the driver. I downloaded three different versions on the Acer web site, and have tried all three, without any success. Now my computer don't even detect any wireless connections. The WLAN connection is available in the Network settings, but will not trace any Network. When I try to establish connection manually, an error occur. In command prompt I can only find the LAN connection. Please advise if there is an solution??? Thanks in advance.

Is there any solution or troubleshooting to the problem beside from installing a new WLAN adaptor.
I'm at sea for the time being, so I'm not able to purchase a new adaptor at the moment.

Since you have reached to the point of re-installing the driver, I believe that the WiFi will no longer work with just installing any driver or application.

If you could remember the last time that the WiFi worked, the best thing that I could advise you to do is to perform a "System Restore". You may need to restore it to the date, the last time you saw the WiFi worked correctly.

Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore.

NOTE: Please bear in mind that restoring your system in to an earlier time erase any application or program that is installed in between dates.

Thank you and good luck!

Make sure to create a system restore point, so that the system restore will work. If you did create a restore point, but still getting an error, try the following:

    1. Run Windows Update to check for and to install any system updates. Visit the following Microsoft Web site to check for updates:
      http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com
      http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com)

    2. If you are prompted, restart the computer.

    3. After the computer restarts, click Start, click All Programs, click Accessories, click System Tools, and then click System Restore.
If System Restore did not start, you can use the "Advanced
troubleshooting" section to try to resolve your issue. If you are not
comfortable with advanced troubleshooting, you might want to ask
someone for help or contact support. For information about how to do
this, visit the following Microsoft Web site:http://support.microsoft.com/contactus/
    http://support.microsoft.com/contactus/.

Let me know if you have questions.

    Thank you!

Hello,

I below your WLAN was working perfectly before now. The problem should be from the WLAN hardware and not the drivers. I believe the WLAN is faulty, that's why is malfunctioning/defective.

At this point, you need to change the WLAN of your laptop and problem will be solved.

Find below what the WLAN looks like.

WLAN problem on a Acer Aspire One 531h. Hi, I - 82fd6b7.jpg

Turn your laptop upside down, remove the screws, open the cover and you will find the WLAN. You are not going to remove the whole laptop cover. You will see demarcation under-nit your laptop.

Good luck.

You need to install the driver software for the wireless card.
The driver from Acer is Atheros here : http://global-download.acer.com/GDFiles/Driver/Wireless%20LAN/Wireless_Atheros_QMI_v7.2.0.208_Vistax86.zip?acerid=633643188086637351&Step1=Notebook&Step2=Aspire&Step3=Aspire%204715Z&OS=V10&LC=en&BC=Acer&SC=PA_7

and for Broadcom Here: http://global-download.acer.com/GDFiles/Driver/Wireless%20LAN/Wireless_Broadcom_v.4.170.25.19_Vistax86.zip?acerid=633643188091317321&Step1=Notebook&Step2=Aspire&Step3=Aspire%204715Z&OS=V10&LC=en&BC=Acer&SC=PA_7

Is this laptop equipped with wirless connection fromthe manufactorere or must it be purchased

Most late model Acer Aspire laptops have G or N WiFi included in the computer. My Acer 3680 series has it built in (G) and I added a D-Link N card to it to speed things up.

There should be a switch on the front or a Fn Button that turns on the WiFi.

I recently bought an acer 4530 laptop with windows xp.The atheros WLAN worked for a few days, now it is missing and uanble to connect

You probably mistakingly disabled your network adapter with a hard switch or with the keyboard.
Have a look at the User manual or other manuals to solve your problem.

If this is not working, try to reinstall Windows and/or your network adapter drivers

Acer 4720z wi fi driver on xp Os

Hi There, since Acer do no release a wlan driver for Windows XP, you need to use the driver for Window Vista. If you do not have the driver for Windows Vista, you download it from here . After finish downloading, then un-zip the file. Now let's start to install the wlan drivers. Go to your "Start Menu", then "Settings", "Control Panel" then "System", system properties windows will be pop up. Then select "Hardware" tab, and then click on "Device Manager" button. You will then see "Device Manager" windows. Look for your "Network Adapter" and you will see your wlan network adapter with red cross mark.Right click your red crossed wlan adapter, then select "Update Driver"
You will prompted with "Hardware Update Wizard" then select on "No, not this time" radio button and click on "Next" button. On next windows, select "Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)" radio button and then select "Next" buttons.
Then another window will pop up, then select "Don't search, I will choose the driver to install", then click on "Next" button. Then you will come to this windows "Select Network Adapter", you will see you existing network adapter that do not working, then select "Have Disk", and browse to the location where you have unzip the driver. Then Select the appropriate driver for your laptop. Acer Aspire laptop 4720z come in 3 wlan varian, Intel chipset, broadcom, and Atheros and I don't know which one is on your laptop. Just try one by one if you are not sure, it's only 3 to choose from.
Hope my solution could help you out.
