Question about GE PSS26MGS Side by Side Refrigerator
My PSS26 is about 2 years old. The icemaker just stopped working when -- when the ice bin emptied its ice, we noticed no more was being made. The power light is solid green. I haven't measured the temperature yet to see if it's below 17F.
It has a horizontal paddle that I presume starts/stops the ice production. It's tucked back near the ice tray. I guess when the augur turns, an abundance of ice would move the paddle toward the front (which would shut off the ice production)? Is that how it works?
Should I try pouring water into the ice tray (from an outside source)?
Other ideas? I'm pretty handy and will report back my results.
The water dispenser on the door works fine (although the water seems warmer than it used to be). The Crushed, Cubes and Quick Ice lights all work.
My model is actually GE Profile Model PSS26MSTE-SS
I couldn't find any Ctrl-Alt-Del buttons.
I had a similar problem with ours - everything worked except the ice maker wouldn't drop the cubes. It would drop a few cubes if the paddles was slowly pushed back and forth and that was it.
How I fixed it: Where the paddle connects to the main unit there is a spring. When I looked real close, you could see a straight edge end part on the spring sitting back further. I took the edge of the spring and pulled it forward. It clicked into place and everything works great now! Glad to not have to buy a new one! Turned on the quick ice button and over night the bin bucket filled up.

The only way we fixed ours was to go out and buy a whole new ice maker!!! That meant replacing ours that was only 3.5 yrs old! What a crock and I will NEVER buy another GE refrigerator that makes such an ice maker that only lasts 3 yrs! I even had a customer service rep from GE tell me they are worthless and that they get tons of calls regarding our same problem! Obviously GE does not listen to its customers. I can only hope that they have improved it and this one will last more than 3.5 years!

6/21/06 I have same problem with my GE pss26msrc ss . Looks like the same icemaker as in photo. checked the box where the ice forms, there was some ice frozen stuck.Poured water to remove ice.Turned icemaker back on,replaced ice catcher box.Freezer did feed water into icemaker ice mold.Still waiting for results.Water feed does work, but do not know if motor pushes formed ice out so that new ice cubes can be made.

As these ice makers cycle there is an arm that moves up while the ice is being freed from the ice maker. After the ice is dumped into the dispenser bin the arm continues a downward motion. If it encounters ice in the downward travel it shuts the ice maker off. If this arm is locked in the full up position the ice maker is manually shut off. Check this arm and make sure it is not locked in the up position.
