Check the condenser behind the toe grill on the bottom front and clean behind it. If dust is built up on these heat transfer areas it will cause the refrigerator freezer to defrost. After cleaning with a vacuum cleaner using the crevasse tool to get into the narrow areas you may want to blow any additional dust out. Also from the back, remove the fiber panel on the lower back of the refrigerator and check to make sure the fan that circulates the air is operational when the compressor is running. Make sure this fiber panel is replaced after you are done as it is critical to normal operation for proper air circulation.

Whirpool side by side freezer working but fridge not

Hi emmaubiera86,

The issue with the freezer working but the fridge is not is usually the result of a defrost problem. The first thing to check in this case is the freezer area. Look at the back panel inside the freezer. If you notice frost covering the back panel, you have defrost problem. One of the things that happens during this defrost problem is Air cannot circulate from the freezer(where the cold happens basically) to the fresh food section. The coils inside the freezer are the only part inside the whole refrigerator that "get cold". They need to stay free from excess frost build up so that air can pass through the coils and reach the fridge section of your machine.

Hope it helps.

Thank you for using FixYa.

I have a Whirlpool Low Frost Fridge. The fridge part is not colloing however, the freezer is. What can the problem be.

This is a usual indicator that you have a defrost problem or the fan in the freeezer compartment is not running. First thing to do is open the freezer and listen for the fan. If its running look on the bck wall of the freezer to see if there is a build up of ice cover the back wall. If so you have a defrost system failure, and with whirlpool more than likiely it will either be your defrost timer or your bi-metal thermnostat which is located behind the freezer wall. The timer, dependingon your model will be located in the ref. side or in some cases in the back of the machine by the compressor.

Whirlpool ts22af isn't cooling enough. The wall(it's a side by side) between the fridge and the freezer is HOT!

first, clean the coils under the machine and make sure the airflow to them is not obstructed.
  • then, Check to see if there is any frost buildup in the back wall of the freezer. If so, it is not defrosting as it should.
  • possible causes:
  1. bad defrost timer
  2. bad defrost heater (in freezer)
  3. bad thermo switch in freezer
  • If you don’t know what these are then unplug the machine and let the ice melt in the freezer overnight with the door open. Then try it the next day, if is cooling fine then you need to have a service person replace one of the above items.
  • If it still has a problem then it might be the compressor and you should probably replace the machine.

  1. bad defrost timer/control unit
  2. bad defrost heater (in freezer)
  3. bad thermo switch in freezer

Defrost side by side fridge

no you can not. there are no separate defrost control for freezer and fridge. the evaporator is located in the freezer section and it is supposed to defrost automatically. what is the problem in the first place?
