Question about Refrigerators

2 Answers

I purchase a counter depth Nutid fridge (side by side, with ice maker) from IKEA, approx 5 months ago. it has developed a buzz that seems to be from the condenser(?) -- all the guts are at the bottom of the fridge. It happens quite a bit, but i really notice it at night when all is quiet and the fridge seems to stay on a long time. sometimes it happens for a just a few minutes when the fridge goes on cool again. but sometimes it lasts 15 to 20 minutes.sometimes a lot more. i've removed the bottom cover plate to see if something is loose. but there's nothing that i can see.

I don't think it's the fan at all. I know that sound. I'd like to stick to whether it's the condenser or not and what the solution might be. If it was the fan hitting ice it would have happened from day one.

In these situations it is almost always something inside the condenser itself causing the rattle. The good news is these Nutid fridges have a full 5 year warranty covering all issues. I'd personally claim the warranty on this fridge as getting it fixed is going to require new parts for sure. Just make sure you tell them it is unacceptable the way it is, and you can't sleep at night with the fridge plugged in the rattle is so bad. Ikea is fantastic with their warranties and won't have a problem helping you out I feel quite sure. Your best bet is just to go into the store where you purchased it and file the claim there, or you can contact them through this form and they will get back to you right away.

You problem is prosibly from the condenser fan.
The fan motor it create the noise or the fan blades.
If it from the motor then the only solution is to replace the complete fan.
If it is from blades probably one day before the defrost the fridge create a lot of ice enoght to touch the blades in order to bent them a litle so there is a good chance that you can bent them in the right position. If not you must replace the fan motor complete.
Just remember that this is not afect the performance of the fridge so according to the level of the sound you can deside to replace it.

My electrolux Icon side by side counter depth fridge is making a knocking noise in the ice maker region. All aspects function perfectly, but the noise is getting increasingly loud.

SO I have/had this problem. The knocking started almost 3 months ago when I got it. IT got to the point where the ice make will not work.
Just had the repairman out. He started out clueless but over the course of an hour he had the factory on the line, and got it resolved, I was watching over his shoulder.

The ice mold is on a cam. It drops down and around to the right to fill with water, and then back up into the center to freeze the water. HE got a kick out of how it worked, it is kind of cute.

When its going to the right to fill, there is a plate in the back right hand side that covers the copper freon line, it protrudes into the path of the ice mold. As ice/frost build up it bends it more to the point it will prevent the mold from swinging into the position to get water. Thats what happened to me.

There is a kit to fix. He did a temp fix:
1) With the Ice tray out.
2)Remove 2 screws on the front lower part of the ice maker and slide cover off.
3)On the right side 2 freon lines come into the ice maker there is a piece of plastic, maybe 2-3 inches square, with a slight offset to it. That's the problem piece. Remove it, and bend it a touch so it pulls it out of the path of the mold.
4) Reassemble.

WHen my kit comes, I'll just re-install it myself.

Ice keeps building up in bottom of freezer and on vent inside fridge and now fridge won't stay cold.

Clean the coil inside the rear access panel behind the unit with a spray air duster and check for this problem.

I just opened up the back of my Frigidaire Side by Side counter depth to find the drain hose was bent and collapsed coming right out of the bottom of the freezer and the pan was dry as a bone. It doesn't look like my drain hose has ever drained a drop of water. The freezer bottom is full of ice And the rust and chipping paint under the bottom of the freezer door along with the mysterious puddles of water every morning means the drain system definetely never worked. Frigidaire should be responsible for this. This, along with the ice maker rebuild I had to do,... after ice was spilling all through the fridge. I actually had warrantty left on that one and called customer support in India to find out I could make the repair myself. Yep I had to do it. Frigidaire you failed.

I've had my samsung bottom freezer counter depth fridge for just over a year and in the last 5 to 6 months it's started to periodically make a very loud humming noise. Should I be concerned that there is...

The freezer compartment fan may have Icing or the motor is going.....Remove the trays and remove the rear cover. The fan and Freezer evaporator are behind that cover.
The fan doesn't run all the time.

If you have an ice maker it too can make buzzing sounds. Just turn off the Ice maker to eliminate it as a source.

Sounds like the ice bucket is not all the way into its slot. Im assuming the ice bucket is in the freezor and not attached to the door.
