Question about Goodman CPLE24-1 Air Conditioner

Open Question

I have a Goodman CPLE42-1 split system. I had a power outage and my first floor unit would not cool anymore. The air handler/blower in the ceiling is working fine, but the fan outside is not turning on. When I went to look for an overload reset on it, I switched off the breaker on my second floor unit by accident, and now it is doing the same thing. Both fans on the outside will not turn on. Both thermostats will turn on the air handlers in the ceiling. Seems like I re-created the same exact problem on the second unit that the first was having. Is there an overload or reset button on the electronic motor to the fan? This is what most people have sugested looking for. If not, any ideas what would have caused both fans to act this way?

SOURCE: goodman split unit that heats instead of cools

Hi, Could be a run capacitor on the fan motor. They usually swell up and or leak when they go bad. If not, the only real way to test them it with a specific capacitor tester. A new capacitor would be cheaper. Make sure that the outside unit is disconnected from power before opening it up, try to spin the fan blade by hand. If it doesn't spin freely it may need oiled if possible. See above solution. Your problem is the fan motor though so if this don't do it, It will have to be replaced. SOURCE: Wiring diagam for goodman heatpump

On your t-stat you have Y, W1, W2, R, O, G, B or C or X. Y is your cooling circuit and will be the same in the air handler and heat pump unit, use the yellow wire for this circuit. W1 and W2 are your back up elec. or gas heat. Depending on how many kws or heat strips you have and t-stat wires you will put the white wire to W1 in both the t-stat and air handler. W2 is for your second stage back up heat if air handler calls for it, this will be a tan or brown or black t-stat wire and goes to W2 on t-stat and air handler. R is half of your 24v control power from the transformer and is the red wire and goes to the t-stat, air handler, and heat pump. O is for the reversing valve in the heat pump that switches it from heating and cooling. You guessed it the orange wire connect to t-stat and heat pump. G is for the blower and is the green wire to the t-stat and air handler. B or C or X is known as the common which is the other half of control circuit from 24v transform it is the blue wire and goes to the t-stat, air handler, and heat pump.

Just take out the fan and capacitor they are not OEM so any fan motor would work as long as same Horsepower and milti speed. And the capacitor is a 5 uf or maybe 7.5. You might have to cut off the shaft of the new fan motor so it don't stick out.. You can get a new fan and capacitor at any Heating and Air parts house. And you are sure they are bad you ohmed them out? Fans are not cheap about 50-75 bucks retail. Let me know how it goes. ken

SOURCE: Goodman SSX16 split system not working

Defective thermostat wire.
Defective contactor.
With the t-stat set for cool and turned down on a low temperature, check for 24 volts at the contactor low voltage hookup. If you have 24 volts, replace the contactor.
You can manually close the contactor to make sure the high voltage is going through it.

Goodman AC unit recently service but don't believe the filter I am using is the issue or what the tech did actually fixed my issue. Details below.

10 year old Goodman central AC won't come on after mini power outage. Breakers and wall thermostat OK.


Check the start capacitor for proper value and replace if necessary.
Ditto for thermostat. There are also some fuses in the air handler that might need replacement.

You may have had a power surge that had a bad effect on electronics of unit. Make sure that unit is receiving power for one thing. U might try to reset the electronics by completely shutting off all the breakers to compressor and air handler and waiting a few minutes and then reconnecting.

I am looking to buy a mini split ac/heating 1 ton unit. I want to know how high from the floor does the unit have to be to cool and heat a 10 x 20 room?


Hi, when you buy your split system, the indoor unit will mount on your wall off off the floor a distance that the factory has made it for. With an 8' to 10' ceiling, it would be about 7' off the floor. This all depends on the refrigeration plumbing coming from the outdoor condenser to the indoor unit. It will tell you all of this on the installation kit for this unit, as the plumbing for the freon pipes are already pre-made for a certain height. A 1 ton, (12,000 btu) unit will have no trouble cooling a room of this size, so check with the manufacture on the height it will be.

We have 2. LA125HV w/ 1 condensing 1. air handler


I could not find a "fault code" list for the LA125HV but for thier Multi Split Units LG lists code CH7 (C7) as "Indoor Unit is Set in Different Cool/Heat Operation Mode." So maybe your air-handler tihinks it's in Heat mode will the compressor is in Cool mode, or vice-versa....

Split straight air system with outside unit comes on and air handler does not whether on auto or on position with temp down or up


Either the thermostat, fan relay on circut board or blower motor bad. Jumper the R and G terminals together on the circut board, depress the door switch and see if the blower runs, if not, check for power to motor, capacitor and motor windings. If it runs then you have tstat/control voltage wiring problem.
