lcd screen black and purple horizontal lines

  • Anonymous May 30, 2008

Screen on my A70 is blank. Sometimes if I turn it on and off several times it will work. Now it does not seem to want to work after I've turned it on and off quiet a few times.

LCD screen is black and pictures are black. Shutter seems OK. Display for previous pictures is fine.

I have the same problem, I followed the link in the Solution below, and called Canon using the 800 number listed there. They agree it sounds like the known CCD problem, and they are sending me a label to send the camera to them for free, for a free evaluation and repair if that turns out to be the issue.

Definitely contact Canon, they were a huge help

I also bought a Canon PowerShot A70 and suddenly a few months ago it went black in picture taking mode and now will only take pictures in black. Does anyone have the 800 number to call. I bought 3 years ago so I don't have the number. I went to the store and bought new batteries I thought that would fix problem, but didn't.

you have to activate it from the menu ...look in the menu for the flash feature..and when you try the options you will have flash on ...choose it and confirm ok ..
on some models the choise for flash on can be activated from the quick menu on screen in the shooting mode...click on the menu when in shooting mode..it will show some icon on screen ...see the one fro flash ..and the modes that will be able to operate ..choose flash on ...or always on ..cause it might have some modes when if it is on a bright day mode..to not trigger the flash ..but if you set to always on ..its always triggering ..

The screen just shows black, the lens works it flashes for pictures but all pics are black

Verify the shooting mode. Sound like you have underexposed images, maybe due to a too fast shutter speed or too small aperature...

No image in sports mode

Sports mode gives you a high shutter speed. Continuous just allows the camera to keep taking pictures as long as you hold the shutter button and keep the autofocus moving.
You need very high Iso capabilities (6400+) and very fast lenses (f1.8, f2.0, f2.8) to shoot indoor sports and night games under lights and stop motion without a very powerful flash system. Standard consumer stuff just can't do it and even with a good flash it cannot work very far.
You can set the camera to night mode and it will give you your highest iso and slow shutter speeds but you will end up with motion blur.
I shoot a D300($1600) and a 70-200mm F2.8($1900) and I can just barely get away with it. To do it right cost about $8000! I'm now professionally shooting just to pay for the next camera. Hobby too Hell in a hurry.

Black lcd screen on Ixus 70 shows icons but will not take picture

A stuck shutter is another common failure mode for digital cameras. The symptoms of a stuck or "sticky" shutter are very similar to CCD image sensor failure. The camera may take black pictures (for shutter stuck closed), or the pictures may be very bright and overexposed, especially when taken outdoors (for shutter stuck open).

To confirm a stuck shutter, put the camera in any mode other than "Auto", and turn the flash OFF (you don't want to blind yourself for the next step). Next look down the lens and take a picture. You should see a tiny flicker in the center of the lens as the shutter opens and closes. If no movement is seen, then you likely have a stuck shutter. If so, please see the following for further info and a simple fix that may help:

When shooting my screen is black and pics. are black

try to take video on Movie mode, if you won't get picture on LCD the CCD is dead. That means you need to replace the whole zoom lens. it costs a lot, not worth to repair.

Camera auto focuses, shoots but the view screen is black

Check the playback menu that the review time has not been set to OFF. This will stop any pictures displaying on the back of the camera when taking them!

I leave mine at 2 secs which is long enough to quickly review and keeps the battery life up. If I need to review for longer, just use playback.

The flash won't come on if you have the camera in any of the creative modes (i.e. A-DEP, M, AV, TV or P). You can manually use it by pressing the flash button just above the lens release button on the front of the camera.

Shooting mode will not operate

Your camera has a defective CCD imager. Please return the camera to Canon in New Jersey and they will replace the CCD at no charge to you. This is a known issue and should be covered under extended warranty. Good luck my friend. Joe Weibel customelectronics.org
