What's your operating system? Have you gone to Start>right click my computer>properties>hardware>device manager. There should be no yellow ! Click on the + next to your sound just to make sure it's there.

HOW DO I GET SOUND WITHOUT USING REALTEK ON A INSPIRON530?'

Realtek is the name of the sound card in the laptop. You need to have realtek audio drivers installed to get sound. Sort of difficult to change out a sound card on a laptop- in fact mostly impossible.
get the Realtek driver and live with it.

How to Fix Issue When All Sounds from Computer Sound Like Chipmunks

Chipmunk Sounds From Computer Speakers
My wife had an interesting issue over the weekend. Anything she played on her computer came through the speakers sounding like chipmunks. You've heard the Alvin and the Chipmunks albums, that's what it sounded like. It didnt matter if it was a Windows sound (wav file), and MP3, a WMV, or any other multimedia. Everything sounded like a chipmunk was playing it. The sounds were played too fast and too high pitched.

Her computer is an Acer with a Realtek sound card built into the motherboard. It has the Realtek HD Audio Manager built into it and I thought at first that something had changed with the audio settings. However, after examining the audio utility and choosing to reset the environment back to its defaults the chipmunk sound was still present.

he Realtek Manager also has an option for Karaoke Mode, which basically removes the voice track when playing a song. Changing this feature had no effect on the system.

Uninstalling and Reinstalling the Sound Card

The only way I found to truly fix the issue was to uninstall and reinstall the Sound Card. Follow the directions below to accomplish this.

1) Open Device Manager by Right-clicking on My Computer and choosing Properties. Then click on Device Manager

2) Under the Sound, Video, and Game Controllers section, Right-click on Realtek High Definition Audio and then click on Uninstall.

3) Close the Device Manager and Reboot your computer

4) After the computer reboots, allow it to automatically find the Realtek audio device on its own and reinstall the drivers. You may be required to reboot the computer a second time after the drivers for the sound card load.

5) Test the sound card by playing an MP3, WAV, WMA, or other sound or by watching a video online.

The problem should be fixed. If for some reason, you are still experiencing a chipmunk-like sound coming from your speakers, visit the sound card manufacturers website and download and install new drivers for the sound card.

No sound realtek XP

Goto device manager and see if there are any error warnings. I know it sounds obvious but check speakers and cables. Make sure the sound card is selecting the correct output for your speakers. If all else fails uninstall then reinstall realtek

I need sound driver/card

Please specify ur sound card name. Do know this click on start button, control panel. If it does not list the specific name, download realtek drivers.
http://www.realtek.com.tw/Downloads/downloadsCheck.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=23&PFid=23&Level=4&Conn=3&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false
Try both the hd version and the standard version. Im pretty sure one of them will work.

The sound of my computers audio is strange. The computer is Acer Aspire E380 with Realtek High Definition sound card. Can anybody help me?

Try this, double click on the realtek HD audio icon on the system tray (orange speaker), click the effects tab, check if there's an active sound effect, change the effect to none, this should return the audio back to normal. Otherwise, either there's a problem with the speaker or on-board sound card.

The following link should take care of your issue. Just select AC'97 Audio Codecs (Software) and that will take you where you need to be. Select the operating system you are running and the download will start.

Bought a used Logitech X-530 5.1 speaker system. The driver installation disc was lost.the Logitech site was an exercise in futility. Please help me!

Hi mate,

You have to download the latest driver for your sound card for it to have the 5.1 support. For instance, I had to download the RealTek driver pack and install it, then double click the red Realtek icon in the bottom right hand corner of my screen, and go to advanced settings and set the preferences for each speaker and each of the 3 input ports on my computers sound card.

If you have a Realtek card then, you want the Realtek High Definition Audio Driver R2.11, you can find it here:
http://rapidshare.com/files/173933659/WDM_R211.zip

and the Vista one is here:
http://rapidshare.com/files/173930788/Vista_R211.zip

That's for my setup though, if you have a Soundblaster card, it'll be the newest Creative driver you want..
Figure out which one you have from your device manager in the system part of the control panel and then google search for the card brand followed by the word 'driver', and check the download page to make sure it supports your card's model number.

Good luck
