Returns to standby 5 seconds after selecting mode

Hi, my unit will initially power on to display mode, the scrolling marquee. When selecting DVD or SAT or anything else it blinks DVD or SAT a few times and clicks to standby with the red light. I don't get it, I'd rather not throw it out. Thanks in advance.

Check for shorted speaker wire strands at one end or the other. That can cause amp to auto-disconnect to prevent damage

There is a problem in the power stage or driver stage of the amp.Take it to a repair shop and ask them to give you an estimate to repair it .I am assuming that your speaker wires are not shorting to gether where they connect to the amp,as this will cause this problem.

Hello,

Your unit being stuck in standby mode is an indication that its having a power problem. Remove it's plug from the wall, wait for about 30mis, fix it back into the wall, then turn it on again. If its still stuck in standby mode, then the power supply board in the unit is the cause of the problem.

The power supply board might be defective and maybe that's why the unit won't power up. Its receiving power but it cannot transfer the current to the necessary part of the unit because a capacitor, diode, etc may have been faulty. Until these bad components are replaced, the unit might not come on.

To actually find out what's wrong, you need to disassemble the unit with a screw driver and check what's wrong. You will be needing a meter in order to test the components on the power board, once you detect any bad component, you can make necessary replacement at any electronics accessories store withing our vicinity. This is the only way by which you can detect the problem.

Of course, testing the power board with a meter will require someone that has the ability. So it you can't, then you might be needing the help of a repairman or you can call a friend that has the ability to help you out.

I wish you the best of luck.

Regards.

Is the red light flashing at first?
The unit may be going into protect mode. Lets hope it has done the job and the receiver has protected itself from failure.
Protect mode can result from speaker wires touching each other or the Amps2_bing.gif metal case. Check that first.
It can also be caused by unstable ohm loads if too many speakers2_bing.gif are connected to any of the outputs especially zone 2.
If you can remove all speaker wires and turn the unit back on. If it stays on, turn the volume down on the main zone and zone 2 if connected. Then reconnect speaker wires.

Onkyo TX-805 7.1 fails to power up out of standby

the unit has sensed an internal fault and shut down or the start up relay has failed in pin #3 inside the unit you will need a service tech to help, if its new the unit is under warranty, the other common cause can be a speaker short in the back, in the wiring or worse at one of the speakers, my new unit had the same problem twice, once for the relay and once because the unit error self test did not like the unit in 6.1 configuration with the left rear surround speaker, holding the power knob down on start up for 10seconds kicks in the auto self diagnostics mode good luck
