There must be a small reset button on your router. Hold it down for 30 seconds. Release it. wait for one minute. Now unplug the power and plug it back in. Wait for 1 minute.
Once you reset the router, it will come back to factory default settings.
You will need to reconfigure the router form the start according to your Internet service provider.

How do I lock my wireless internet so neighbors can not log on

1. First you must set password to access the web interface, so that only you can change the setting.
For a linksys the default web-interface is at 192.168.1.1 The first term you access it enter username:admin, password admin. If that does not work read the manual to find that out.
2. Explore the TAB and each sub-menu to familiarize yourself with the interface. For change to Take effect you must SAVE. Button is at the bottom.
3. In the TAB SETUP>Basic Setup Activate the Automatic DHCP reservation of IP addresses. Enable it on the same page
4.Under the ADMINISTRATION TAB >Management enter a new router password.
5. Under the Wireless TAB> Security Menu, select the Security Mode as WPA2Personal, and Encyiption AES. Enter a passphrase ( like a password but can be a phrase -part of a sentence. For key renewal enter a number like 3600 seconds.
Save all.
Now if you connect a device through the wireless you will be prompted to enter the pass-phrase. You will be asked for it after every power down of router or reboot of router. If you reset the configuration by pressing the reset button on the router you must redo everything again.
Remember: You will erase everything every time you reset the router. So if you make mistakes, just reset it with a straightened paper clip.
Remember, any body who has physical access to the router can reset. If tech savvy, he/she can give him/her/self access.

I had forgotten my password so i held in the rest button and it caused my network to not work. Ive tried everything i could find online about this situation.

Plug your computer directly into the Internet appliance (cable modem, DSL modem, etc.). Reboot. If using Windows, open a command prompt and type "ipconfig", without the quotes, then hit Enter. Look at the line for Gateway.

If it starts with 192.168, write down the whole number. If it starts with 10., write down the whole number. If it starts with any other number, you're done in here.

If the Gateway number started with 192.168 or a 10. (ie 192.168.1.254 or 10.1.10.1), disconnect your computer from the Internet appliance, then connect it to the router. Power up the router. Go back into the command window (Start, Run, CMD, Enter or click on Command Prompt in the Start Menu under Accessories). Do the ipconfig thing again, and look at the gateway. This is the IP address of the router, typically 192.168.1.1.

Open your browser (Internet Explorer, Firefox, etc.). In the address bar, type in the gateway address of the router, typically 192.168.1.1. If the IP address of the router was the same as that of the Internet appliance, change the last number to something different (if the modem and router were both 192.168.1.1, change the router to 192.168.1.2). Turn off DHCP on the router. Connect the router to the modem, plugging into of the numbered ports on the back of the router. All done.

If the IP address of the modem was something other than a 192.168 or 10 based number, simply plug the cable from the modem into the WAN port on the router, plug your computer into one of the numbered ports, then restart everything.

How do i password protect my router

I will provide you with the basic configuration of most Linksys Wireless Router since you didn't indicate the model of your router.

First, to know the Router Access Page, you need to go to the command prompt. (For Windows XP) Just click on the Start Menu and click Run and type in CMD on the Run Box and press Enter.

(For Windows 7) Click on the Orb or the Start Menu and click on Search Program and type in CMD and click on CMD at the top.

It will show you the Command Prompt, it is a black Window. Just type in IPCONFIG and press Enter and it will show a bunch of numbers.

You will need to locate the Default Gateway (example: 192.168.110.1)

Now that we have the Default Gateway, let us close the Command Prompt and open up an internet browser. Make sure your computer is connected to your Linksys Router either via Ethernet Cable or Wirelessly.

On the Internet Browser, let us type in the Default Gateway. Just type the numbers (example: 192.168.110.1) in the address bar to access your Router.

You will see your Linksys Router Page

1. Click on Administrator tab
2. Then Click on Management
3. Under Management, you will see Router Password.
4. Type your desire password on the Password box and Confirm box.
5. Click on Save Settings below.

Everything is now set.

By the way, the Router name is located under Setup tab and Basic Setup.

The computer keeps telling me that it can not associate with the access point. What's the problem?

Hey Rico

You might have the wrong password for your wireless connection, if you sure that you have the right password.

Best fix for this is to by pass the linksys software and just use the windows wireless connection manager.

Try this

On the bottom right of your desktop screen, where you see the time. Right click on the green icon that says "Linksys WLAN manager" and click " use windows XP configuration manager", click yes if prompt. After that, windows is now managing your wireless connection.

To connect wirelessly, go to start > control panel > network connections
  • right click wireless network connection
  • go to properties
  • go to the wireless networks tab
  • check the box that says use windows to manage your wireless networks
  • click ok
  • right the wireless network connection icon again
  • click on view available wireless networks
  • connect to your network
make sure that you have the correct password with the right cases.

Hope this helps

No connection to desktop, but great connection to laptop???

Hi Lindsay,

The very first thing that you need to do is to personalize the wireless settings of your ultra range plus router. Since your laptop is wired directlty to the router and is working properly, you can access the router's GUI to personalize the wireless settings. Open internet explorer on the working computer and type http://192.168.1.1 on the address bar, you will be prompted to enter a username and password, by default there is no username and the password is "admin" if you have setup a password using the setup cd then use that one.
Now your inside the setup page of your wireless router, look for the tab the say's Wireless and below you will find four sub menu namely; Basic Wireless Settings, Wireless Security, Wireless Mac Address and Advance Wireless Settings.
Under Basic wireless settings change the Wireless Network Name(SSID) to something you prefer(this is a must).
For the Radio Band, set to Wide 40Mhz. Wide Channel(9), Standard Channel(11) now click on "Save Settings".
Now got to Wireless Security and for the Mode choose(WPA Personal/PSK Personal) Enter a 8 or more digit password under passphrase and click "Save Settings".

Now your done setting up your wireless router it's now time to connect your desktop wirelessly.

If your using a linksys wireless usb network adapter more or less you have also installed the WLAN Uiltility but personally I use the built in WLAN of XP and Vista.

Using the linksys WLAN Utility for to the Profiles tab and highlight default.
Click Edit and it will provide a list of available network(SSID) that your computer detects.
Select the name(SSID) that you provided the router earlier and click connect.
It will not prompt you to enter the WPA Key also known as passphrase(remember the 8 or more digit password) then click Connect to the Network.

You should now have a valid internet connection wirelessly on your desktop.

Oh and for your 2nd question the answer is No, since you already purchased and installed a wireless usb network adapter for the desktop computer you don't need to purchase a long ethernet cable or move the desktop to where the route is.

Hope this will help you get connected.

Regards
