Hellow edrayetta,

here http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&tabact=DownloadDetailTabAct&fcategoryid=320&modelid=8775

you can find a download section. Selcet your OS ( XP, vista, millenium or such) and download the driver, once you have downloaded and intalled it, you should be able to plug your camera with your laptop recognizing it.

good luck and thank you for using this service.

Hello there.

Please click here for information on your camera with Windows Vista: http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=OSCompatibilitySupportAct&keycode=vistadr&fcategoryid=221&modelid=8775

If you use Windows XP Home or Professional then click here http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=OSCompatibilitySupportAct&keycode=windr&fcategoryid=221&modelid=8775 and click on the "Home,Professional" link.

This will setup the camera for either version of Windows, for your information Vista doesn't need additional software but Windows XP does.

Hope this helps.

Please install required software from the CD which you must have got with the camera package.

Software and drivers are very important on a computer to recognize a hardware.

All the best.

There is a small button 3 volt button cell in the camera located next the screen on left hand side,, make sure that battery is not flat, otherwise the camera will not bootup.

This sounds like it might be a defective CCD imager. Take a picture and see if it is also black. If so, Canon should fix this for you for free, including free shipping both ways. This is regardless of your camera's warranty status. Please check the following two links for more info:

Blurred purple image

The doe problem go away if you bang on the side of the camera? there is a known issue with the CCD sensor on certin model cameras that after a few years the glue or somthing dries up inside the sensor and it developes a bad connection. Canon has admit they know about this problem and they will fix them free of charge and pay shipping both ways. Sometimes users can bang on the side of the camera and the camera will work properly again but not for very long. I cant see your display so im not sure if thats it or not but the problem has this purple blackish symptom. Go to the canon usa webpage and then search around for your camera model and if there is a known issue it will say on their site. Then there are ways to contact them on their site.
