Those Bolts are actually check valves, and when they start to leak, the only fix is just replacing them. Unfortunately, they are about 45.00 to 55.00 a piece.trans fluid coming out top of two bolts on top of - bf529cc.jpg

Nope, but you do have to remove both front and rear drive shafts, exhaust Y pipe, transfer case, all wiring that goes to the trans and transfer case, trans fluid lines, starter, torque converter bolts, trans cross member, then the trans and engine should tilt down far enough for you to get to the upper bolts of the bell housing.

My 2003 hd ultra classic is leaking trans. fluid at the top of the trans. what do i do?


first spray it all clean with brake parts cleaner, careful not to spray on starter. then start it up go around the block and verify where the leak is, if its the top cover get a gasket replace easy fix five bolts. now if your leak is coming from the nipple or short hose thats on the left side of top cover thats a vent and this indicates the tranny is over filled with fluid.

You drill whole in the bottom of the transmission. Drain the old fluid, then tap in threads for your new drain bolt. The Allen bolt on the top of the transmission is where you put in new 20w50 synthetic oil.

Where do we check transmission fluid


jack up and suitably support the vehicle so you can fit under the engine. start the engine, reach down by the air cleaner tube down to the top of the transmission, and unscrew the plastic cap in the top of the trans. now with the engine running, get under the car with a drain pan, 11mm end wrench, and some rags. follow the transmission pan toward the passenger side of the car until you reach the end, straight up from the end edge of the pan is a small 11mm headed bolt remove that bolt carefully . if fluid comes out, its full, if not add dexron VI atf thru the hole in the top of the trans. until it runs out of the hole from where you removed the bolt. I know its a lengthy procedure, but these transmissions were designed to be changed at normal service intervals, if their is no transmission leak, then the fluid should be full is the idea I guess..

I have a 2003 Dodge Stratus SE automatic 4 cylinder and 4 doors with approximately 160,000 Today as I was driving I noticed that when it shift gears as I accelerate, the car jumps...as I accelerate it...


That sounds familiar, I know what to do. You should try changing out the auto trans fluid and filter, to do so first make sure you get the correct automatic trans fluid for your car. Most parts stores can tell you. Also you will need to get a new trans filter usually they are inexpensive. It will come with a new filter and gasket. Now most shops will not change the filter due to warranty and liability reasons, but it really is not hard i have done this many times. First you will want to jack up the car slide a drain pan underneath then find your transmission. Now you will be working with the pan itself on the bottom of the trans. If you have a drain plug your in luck simply remove it and drain the fluid if not there will be bolt around the outside edge of the pan. The best way i have found is to go around the pan breaking every bolt loose then remove every other bolt from the car, take care not to lose any bolts. Now this is important you want to position yourself so you can unbolt the pan and support it at the same time. Keep removing the bolts leave 2 on one side of the pan as a pivot point to start the draining. When you feel you have drained enough fluid to manhandle the pan go ahead and remove it all the way, carefully it will have fluid in it. note the car should be cool before doing this or fluid will be very hot. I suggest placing the pan under the trans because it will continue to drip fluid from the bottom. You want to clean the pan of all old gasket and sealant, clean the entire inside of the pan Brake Parts Cleaner works best and evaporates quickly. Very important there is a magnet in the bottom of the pan designed to catch any metal shavings that come off the trans clean it but do not remove it. The next step is to remove the old filter from the bottom of the transmission. Usually held in place with a few bolts, after the filter is out compare it to the new one to make sure it is the same. If so proceed with installing it in the same place. Now the filter will come with a new gasket, you will need some sealant i recommend high temp RTV silicone. ether orange or red. Apply an even layer on the pan after cleaning place the gasket on top of the sealant and press it in place then apply a second layer of sealant on top of the gasket now your ready to install. position the pan under the trans put it up into place and start putting the bolts back in. note only start bolts and start all bolts before starting to tighten them. Once all the hardware is back in tighten up the pan evenly up to the trans. These bolts do not need much torque so once they are tight they are tight do not overtighten. A small amount of sealant may come out of the outside of the pan that is normal and means a proper seal is there. Let sealant dry for 20 to 30 min. Refill the trans with ATF fluid usually 4 to 5 quarts. Check under the car after filling with fluid if there are no drips or leaks then you did it right. Yous transmission will shift as smooth as when you first got the car. ANY QUESTIONS JUST ASK

Can't locate tranny dip stick. there is a plug of some sort on top of tranny under exhaust manifold. what is this all about. thinking someone might have broken tube but not sure. any help out there


No the tube is not broken.This is where you add trans fluid.G.M.has eliminated the dip stick.You need a hoist to check the fluid level now.There is a hex bolt on the tail shaft end of the trans that has to be removed with the vehicle running and if fluid comes out when the bolt is removed then the level is good.If not then you add fluid.Hope this helps.Good luck.

I cont find the dipstick for the transmission


there is no dipstick on the transmission. The transmission uses a standpipe in the trans pan. If you look under the vehicle on the transmission pan you will see a drain plug. In the center of the drain plug is a small torx head bolt thatis attached to a tube which goes up about 2" into the transmission pan. The idea is that if you remove the torx bolt (engine running) and fluid comes out in a trickle then the level is ok. If no fluid comes then the level is low. On the passengers side of the trans toward the top of the trans is a large torx or hex style plug that you can fill the fluid from. It is easier in my opinion to just force fluid up the standpipe hole until it trickles out. I use a BBQ flavor injector (Walmart). It looks like a large syringe and it is used to inject fluids into meat. Just don't use it for food if you use it for fluid.

Draining the system is easy,,It can be messy,, loosen the transmission oil pan bolts slowly allowing the pan to drop down fluid will spill out ..Checking the trans fluid , The transmission and fluid must be at 80 degrees celcius..and the car raised level and remove the 10 mm threaded plug at the passenger side of the trans on the tailstock end and if fluid comes out then its at the proper level..add fluid at the red cap located on top of the trans..at the drivers side....good luck

underneath the car there will be a small check plug use a 11mm wrench. it will be on the transmission just to the rear of the oil drain plug on the side of the trans check it while the car is running. pull the plug, if fluid comes out then its full if not the fill is on the driver side usually a red cap on top of the trans
