SOURCE: What is the difference between a Swedish massage chair and a Shiatsu massage chair?

A Swedish massage chair incorporates five different stroke patterns (sliding, kneading, tapping, vibration and friction) across muscles groups; while a Shiatsu massage chair combines pressing, swaying, patting and rolling movements while targeting pressure points.

SOURCE: How much weight can an electric massage chair handle? I am overweight and want to buy a massage chair; however I would hate to spend the money and in the end damage the chair or void the warranty.

Each manufacturer has their own weight limit published, so I advise asking in advance. From my research, it seems that most chairs can hold up to 270lbs; although there are some models that have a higher capacity.

When was the first vibrating chair made?

Massage chairs were first brought to market in 1962 by the Family Inada company. Today, Japan is the largest consumer of massage chairs with some surveys suggesting that over 20% of Japanese households actually own a massage chair. By comparison, massage chair penetration in the US market is estimated to be in the neighborhood of 1%. The current massage chair market is dominated at the top by a three dominant manufacturers: Fujiiryoki, Family Inada, and Panasonic. After the purchase of Sanyo by Panasonic, Panasonic announced plans to eliminate Sanyo as a brand for all current Sanyo consumer products.

Massage starts then stops after 10 seconds

I suggest that you contact Panasonic directly and ask them how you could fix this. Also, you can get in touch with the store you got it from and possibly ask for a new massage chair.

I went recently to shop around for a massage chair. The salesman went on and on about all the benefits it would bring me. What they don't tell you are the disadvantages I can expect from buying

There are a few disadvantages to note. First being cost. Paying to use a massage chair can quickly add up. Secondly, you should consider weight. Massage chairs are generally very heavy. This can be a huge disadvantage is you need to either move the chair or are having it shipped. Lastly, you should consider effectiveness. Although the use of a massage chair can be very relaxing and beneficial for aches and pains, they are not as effective as a professional masseuse.

Is it worth buying a massage chair in replacement of going to my weekly massage appointments at the spa?

I think so. Let's face it; although massage chairs can be expensive, they are a one-time fee that will pay off in the long run; whereas seeing a masseuse every week is an ongoing cost. Even putting price aside, buying a massage chair adds a level of convenience to your life. Having a massage chair in your home is like having a therapist on call 24/7.

Why should I get an electric massage chair?

Massage chairs are great because they can help receive a lot ofstress and tension. You can program themto target specific problems areas to work out all your kinks. The best part about a massage chair is thatit doesn't have to end after an hour and you don't have to tip anyone!

PANASONIC EP 1004 MASSAGE CHAIR : ROLLERS WORK BUT ARE STUCK AT THE TOP OF THE CHAIR. WHAT DO I DO?

I have one of these chairs, and it quit on me last week. The problem is that the up/down clutch is getting stuck. First, download the service manual here:
http://www.nodevice.com/manual/newmans/panasonic/EP1004NASIMPzip/get25127.html
After opening it up, locate the up/down clutch. It is on the bottom right of the control module. Use a 10mm socket to remove the bolt that holds the belt pulley on. Remove the belt pulley and under it is another big metal disc - the clutch. The problem is that there is a black rubber gasket under the clutch disc that decomposes and makes the clutch stick to it. I scraped the black rubber off and reassembled, and now, it works perfectly. In my case, the rollers didn't even work. This is because the massage clutch, which operates the rollers, also had the same problem.
