Question about Maytag Kitchen Ranges

1 Answer

When oven was 1-year old, the lower oven started making a noise that sounded like a blow torch, usually after being on for a little while. It was (after many service calls) repaired by replacing the valve in back of the oven that feeds both the upper and lower ovens. At 2-years old, the blow-torch sounds started when I had the broiler on for a while. Starting the process over again with a serviceman not having any idea what's wrong. When the oven was brand new, it had a gas leak in the stove top. Any idea what is causing this blow-torch issue? It doesn't seem to have any effect on the flame although the serviceman said the flame was too yellow. Maytag is offering no help and starting to back away from supporting this issue.

Hi Nancy
I have to ask you a couple of questions. Is the range set up for LP or Natural gas? Blow-tourch sounds are normally caused by to much air going into the burner. If you can look at the burner safely the flames should burn just out of the burner. If the flames are way off the burner the air adjustment is way off or you range is set for the wrong gas. Are your top burners OK?

The oven sounds like blow torch

It could be the FSD(flame supervisery divice)not opening correctly starving the burner of gas.

Makes a loud buzzing noise and does not get hot

Have seen this many times.

Sounds like a bad CAP since a bad diode would blow the fuse and a bad mag would likely do the same thing.

Since yours is making the loud 60hz buzz you need to replace the capacator that will likely fix the problem. A $10 fix

Oven fire, loud explosion sounding like a welding torch, flames. Very nervous!

Most likely an element burning out though it does sound a little more excessive than is the usual case. Was the fan oven on, in which case remoce the inner ear panel in the oven and check to see if the element surrounding the fan has burnt out

Ice Maker Making Noise

sounds like your icemaker is jammed.

first ofall just feel around the icemaker and see if you can find a peice of ice jamming it that you can remove. if that doesnt work heat it up with a blow dryer until any ice that is there will melt away and it will free up..

there is one other possibility: the stripper could be jammed against the side of the icemaker in which case you'll have to remove the icemaker from the refrig and unjam it..

hope that helps and good luck

Mwave made loud buzzing noise then didn't heat up anymore

When there's a loud buzz like that, it does not heat, and does not blow the fuse, it is usually a defective magnetron. Did it sound something like someone making a "gurgling" sound into a coffee cup? I think this has a a one-year warranty, with n five-year warranty covering the magnetron. You can find a local Amana-authorized servicer here: http://amana.com/amana/jsp/portalhttp.do?cs=0&BV_UseBVCookie=Yes&NextPage=7
