    KHANtheGR8 -- the problem said "write 2 equations", but you did not do that!
    So, you only get 50% of the marks, because you only gave 50% of the ansnwer.

How do i use the equal sign when solving an equation?

You enter the problem into the calculator and when you are finished you press the equals sign to make it give you the answer to your problem.

Here is an example;

If I wanted to know what the sum (or total) was for 2 + 10+ 16 - I would enter the number 2 and then the plus sign + and then the number ten and the plus sign + and then the number sixteen and the plus sign again + and then press the equals sign which looks like this =. when I press the equals sign = the calculator gives me the answer to my question of what the total of those numbers are.

I hope this helps?

The sum of two numbers is 20. the larger of two numbers is four less than thrice the smaller.What are the numbers?

Assume this:
A is the greater number
B is the lesser

You have 2 equations

A + B = 20
A = 3xB - 4

Substitute the solution for the second eqation into the first

(3xB - 4 ) + B = 20

solve for B

3xB + B = 20 + 4
4xB = 24
B = 6

solve for A with solution for B

go back to equation 2

A = 3xB - 4
A = 3x6 - 4
A = 14

So A = 14
and B = 6

Otherwise use trial and error.

Hope that helps.

One number is 11 more than another number. Find the two numbers if three times the larger number exceeds four times the smaller number by 4.

Do you need help doing your homework?

If so, here's a first attempt. It may be correct, and it may not be.
It's up to you to understand the process, and to make any needed corrections.

X minus 11 equals Y.
So, X is larger than Y.
So, 3 times X minus 33 equals 3 times Y.
Thus 3 times X equals 3 times Y plus 33.
Also, 3 times X minus 4 equals 4 times Y.

So, (3 times Y plus 33) minus 4 equals 4 times Y.

Thus 0 times Y plus 29 equals 1 times Y.

So, Y equals -27.

The sum of two numbers is equal to 60.the bigger number doubled minus the smaller number is 82.5 write 2 equations and then solve to find the 2 number.

Check my work, to make sure that I did it correctly:

X + Y = 60 and 2 * X - Y = 82.5

2 * X + 2 * Y = 2 * 60 and 2 * X - Y = 82.5

2 * X + 2 * Y - 2 * X - (-Y) = 2 * 60 - 82.5

2 * X - 2 * X + 2 * Y + Y = 46.5

3 * Y = 46.5

Y = 15.5

QED. :-)
