How do i brighten up the pic on my tv? - Projection Televisions

Brightness is maxed out as controlled by the remote picture control, but still, picture is so dark that all detail in darker areas of picture is lost. Is it dirty lenses, dirty mirror or should I adjust the brightness control located on the main PC board of most TVs. If the latter, where do I find a pictorial of the rear controls on the Panasonic PT-53WX42?

Hello, What type of TV do you have, and have you tried the brightness setting in the menu yet ?

you could have a ballast that has gone bad especiallyif it takes the bulb a long time to brighten up. look in the front of the set and see if the bulb indicator light tells to replace bulb or lamp. then you could try to reset the tv just in case this could unset an improper setting. the correct way to reset would be found in the user manual.

Hello. I have a Mitsubishi WD-65732. We are experiencing TV shutdowns about once every two weeks. Also, unless it it my imagination, the picture seems to dim/brighten depending upon other things on...

Hi,
I've suspect that your bulb has near to its end thats why you've encountered the subsequent shutdown and picture problem. This is the very common symptom of a faulty bulb. But since you've still watching your tv, this is not totally defective. I've advice you to look for a qualified technician to check the condition of the bulb before replacing with new one.
Hope it may help you.
Have a nice day.
Thanks for using Fixya.

Does it take some type of gel under the lights, the colors are a little blurry

i also have this tv. i removed backcleaned mirrior, back of screen and lenses VERY GOOD. Then turned on tv go to convergence, sepaerate cross hairs then adjust focus on lenses. Then lenses rotate maybe about a 1/3 turn total by hand. Grab ring that houses lenses and turn until cross hairs are as clear as possible. This can be done with out help by watching inside of screen. red and green are adjustable, the blue is adjustablealso but i couldnt find blue cross hairs, maybe by covering red and green lenses the blue will show on screen. anyway when done and cross hairs are clear, lenses, mirror and screen are clean, you can adjust covergence and get a very clear screencleaning will also brighten pic. Yes, they dim as they age, and you've done well to get 3 years out of one.
Projection TV makers charge an arm and a leg for their replacement lamps. They make it easy to do but as a result the custom lamp assy is expensive. The trick is to just buy the bulb for your model TV from any number of us aftermarket sources at a fraction of the lamp price and install it in the old lamp yourself. really easy.
