Question about Westinghouse Dishwashers

1 Answer

The top rotor arm on my model SB907SJ is blocked and will not rotate and use the detergent. If I could remove it I could blow the fibrous material causeing the blockage out. I don't see how to detach trhe arm. I don't want to apply force. Can you help please.

Thank you, but this does not actually solve the problem. I gave the Model Number and there are no bolts to unscrew. I am reluctant to put any pressure on it. My initial request - or so I thought - was to the Westinghouse site. Surely there is a simpe solution for that particular model. It is the TOP rotor arm I want to remove to unblock.

Hi,

Disconnect the power source to your dishwasher before you conduct this or any other repair. Either unplug the unit from the wall outlet, remove the appropriate fuse from the fuse box, or flip the appropriate breaker in the circuit breaker panel.

Water is forced through the spray arms of a dishwasher by the unit's pump and motor assembly. The force of the water propels the spray arms, spraying water and detergent onto the dishes on the dishrack. Depending on your model, you may have only one spray arm located on the bottom of the dishwasher, or you may also have an upper spray arm located at the top of the unit above the upper dishrack. There may or may not also be a plastic tower extending from the center of the lower spray arm, whose purpose is to spray an additional blast of water at the dishes.
Remove the lower dishrack from the unit. If your dishwasher has a spray tower in the center of the spray arm, remove it now by unscrewing it with your hand. You should see a bolt in the center of the spray arm. Remove the bolt and then remove the lower spray arm by pulling up on it. If your particular spray arm is not held in place with a bolt, lift up on the spray arm to remove it from the unit. You may need to rock it back and forth a little to help ease the process.
If there are any washers used with your spray arm, make sure you return them in the same order they came off.
If you are replacing the spray arm, simply discard the spray arm you have just removed, and insert a new one in its place. To clean your spray arm, soak it in warm, soapy water. Rinse it clean with a high pressure spray of water. Return spray arm to dishwasher.

Let me know,if needed further assistance.

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

I have an LG model LDS4821 dishwasher that quit washing clean. Top rack is the dirtiest. Water is hot and bottom drain is clean.

The most likely cause is a blocked or clogged wash arm. Many times when the wash stops the debris blocking the spray will back away. The holes in the arm are aimed to cause the arm to rotate. The clogged hole is usually an outer diameter hole which provides the force for the arm to rotate.

Some upper end washers have a blocked arm sense to alert when arm is blocked.

Careful not to deform the geometry of the hole when removing the debris. Tweezers work the best.

Replacing distributer suburban 1500 m 1997

HOPE YOU DIDN\'T TAKE OUT THE OLD ONE YET !!!!!!!!!! YOU MIGHT WANT READ UP ON THIS BEFORE YOU DO. BUT THERE ARE PROCEDURES, DISTRIBUTOR MUST BE MARKED, @ BASE/ENGINE BLOCK, USE PAINT, ROTOR MUST BE FACING #1 SPARK PLUG, #1 PISTON NEEDS TO BE SET @ TOP-DEAD-CENTER, ON THE COMPRESSION STROKE, NOT EXHAUST STROKE, IF YOU REMOVE THE VALVE COVER DRIVERSIDE IF V8, YOU CAN SEE #1 ROCKER ARMS. WHEN ROTATING THE ENGINE, MANUALLY W/WRENCH, BFW, BIG-FU-KIN-WRENCH, BOTH ROCKER ARMS WILL BE EVEN & LOOSE, IF YOU REMOVE #1 SPARK PLUG, THE TOP OF THE PISTON WILL BE @ TOP OF ITS STROKE, ALSO, TIMING MARKS WILL BE INLINE @ CRANKSHAFT DAMPER. @ 0, TOP DEAD CENTER. WHEN THIS OCCURS, YOUR @ TOP DEAD CENTER . DO YOU UNDERSTAND ???????? BY REMOVING ALL SPARK PLUGS IT WILL BE EASYIER TO TURN THE CRANK. ONCE YOU ACHIEVE & SATISFY ALL THE ABOVE PROCEDURES YOU CAN SET IN YOUR DISTRIBUTOR, ROTOR FACING #1 SPARK PLUG TERMINAL, THAT YOU ALSO MARKED, INSERT THE NEW DISTRIBUTOR EXACTLY LIKE YOU TOOK IT OUT, REPEAT, EXACTLY..........................GOOD LUCK!!!

The top arm will not rotate.Have checked to make sure that no holes blocked and arm rotates freely.Bottom arm works ok

Check the transfer pipe that takes water to the top arm, it could be cracked, loose, kinked or blocked. Try back pressurising it from the top rotating arm attachment pipe. This will give you an indication where a leak could be or blow out a blockage.

The problem is likely to be that the jets in the rotor arm are blocked.

To check this, remove the arm (it is easy to do, as it is intended for the user to do this) and clean out all the holes. Try running water from you tap through the holes (backward flow) to remove anything that is too large to pass through the jets.

WASHING ARMS NOT ROTATING, ITEMS NOT BEING CLEANED. IS THE PUMP WORN OUT?

Please post the model number of your dishwasher here.

I am not familiar with the HorPoint Aquarius dishwasher, but if it is a newer, water conserving, energy saving model, it ~might~ have a check valve that switches/alternates the water from the lower to the upper rack (Other manufactures do this, including LG.)

I know you think I am nuts, but your problem ~may~ not be the wash arm. It really sounds like your heating element is not working, which then does not get the detergent powder up to the high temp it needs to activate the cleaning ability.

Also, buy a box of name brand detergent powder and use it rather that an ultra-cheap box. It really does make a difference with dishwasher detergent.

Good Luck!

Please post back here with what you find, OK?

Being from the US, I have not worked with this LG dishwasher, not any down under.
But the first thing to do is use only a name brand dishwasher detergent powder. Don't use gels or tablets, ever. Many cleaning problems are resolved by avoiding the ultra cheap generic detergent.
If problems continue, confirm that the heating element is still working. Dishwashers need heated water to activate the soap.
If problems continue, my next move would be to remove the gear beneath the lower spray arm and clean everything and remove debris that could be blocking the water flow.
Good Luck!

Bottom spray arm not rotating

The arm usually will stop rotateing because there is a obstuction in the arm itself you will need to remove the arm normally unclips (older machine used to scew off)When you have the arm out check all hole top and bottom and open any that are blocked rinse out arm and replace give it a wash and see if there is any improovement, let me know.
Thanks
